Rapper/political activist (?) M.I.A. was so pissed with Lynn Hirschberg‘s profile of her in last weekend’s New York Times Magazine piece that she’s crossed over the revenge line: giving out Hirschberg’s personal phone number on Twitter and pretending its her own. Too far? Definitely too far. The tweet reads “CALL ME IF YOU WANNA TALK TO ME ABOUT THE N Y T TRUTH ISSUE, ill b taking calls all day bitches ;)” with the number at the top.
What does this accomplish? We have no idea: Hirschberg, if actually fielding phone calls, won’t be giving out any more “truths” about the piece that could cast M.I.A. in a positive light. So this stunt just comes off as petty and slightly insane…we doubt many more journalists will be interviewing M.I.A. anytime soon, and she definitely did not endear herself to the blogging community which already has a queasy relationship with Internet privacy issues.
