Here’s a clip from Jessica Simpson’s new movie, Major Movie Star.
The imdb gives a synopsis of the film as:
When fluffy, bubble gum movie star Megan Parker suddenly finds herself broke and humiliated in the public eye, she wanders from the wreckage of a car accident and witlessly enlists in the U.S. Army hoping in vain that it will change her life.
Sound familiar? A bit like Private Benjamin perhaps?
Yeah, some in the media are already saying this movie is a ripoff, although I have to say I think this could be a great role for Jessica. She could do something different with it than Goldie Hawn did, and give it her own little mark.
The one thing that disappointed me about the clip is that there doesn’t seem to be that many big stars in it. Vivica Fox, Steve Guttenberg and Cheri Oteri aren’t exactly the Hollywood heavy hitters. Which means that Jessica is carrying this movie on her own star power. So if it bombs, it’s another mark against her.
This could be a mute point if the film is a big success. One positive thing is that Travis Schuldt seems to have a small role in the film. (He’s Keith, the hottie that was dating Elliot on Scrubs.) He’s also in the following clip. Enjoy.
So? What did you think? Will you go see this movie? (It will be out in theaters sometime next month.) Will it be a hit?

Jessica: God bless you and your husband!
MK: I keep wondering that too! I wonder if this is her dad thinking it’s good for her career to play up the dumb blonde routine or what.
I liked her latest film, Blonde Ambition. I thought it was cute, a little ditzy, but good nonetheless.
This role though just irritates me. She needs to star in something completely different than cutesy dumb roles.
My hubby is an Active Duty solider in the Army :-) I am a proud Army Wife. He’s been in for 4 years now, corrently serving in Iraq.
Maybe she does need the right role. But the past few roles she has taken makes me wonder if she is so desperate she is taking any role possible.
Jessica: I didn’t know you were an army wife! But I can’t blame you. If I was sitting in your perspective this film definitely wouldn’t be funny to me, either.
MK: I thought maybe this might be a hit for her but it sounds like I’m outnumbered by you guys!
But I can see your point. Maybe Jessica isn’t cut out for acting at all. I used to think maybe it was just that she didn’t get the right part yet.
But I agree with you on the fact that Ashlee definitely has a talent for it. She’s stood out in quite a few little projects already, and she started smaller. She didn’t try to take a starring role, so maybe that makes a difference too.
Ritovskyta: I think you’re right. This one might be a hit when it comes out on DVD.
I am an Army Wife & this film looks annoying as heck. I won’t go see it & doubt it’ll be a hit.
Immediately I think of Material Girls (with Hillary Duff) and In the Army Now (with Pauley Shore). This story line is really not unique. I don’t think Jessica is cut out for acting, personally.
I am so sick and tired of seeing her as such a ditzy character. If she tried a more serious role, I might consider seeing it. But for the most part, I think the acting should be left to Ashlee.
This is an chick flick – meanning stupid lines, and nothing new…I had fun waching blonde ambition, it was stupid, it had everything wrong with it, but as many stupid chick movies, I laughed and enjoyed it…
This will be the same. I don’t see it being a hit. People are ashamed to admit they like jess. it will be a flop. but – as blonde ambition – a hit abroad and on dvd rentals and sales…
