Marc Martel Looks And Sounds Like Freddie Mercury

Internet: we have found you somebody to really like a lot. A Canadian singer named Marc Martel uploading this video of himself singing Queen‘s “Somebody to Love,” and we’re pretty impressed. Not only does Marc, with his impressive range, sound like Freddie Mercury, he resembles the flamboyant frontman as well. Maybe it’s just the mustache? Compare:

Marc is actually already an established musician in Canada. His Christian rock band, Downhere, has released five studios albums, and they’ve got four Juno Awards to their name. Still, I think Marc should move to the U.S. and compete on American Idol. I promise I’d vote for him every week.

UPDATE: Apparently Marc lives in Nashville. Are you listening, AI?

Queen: Are you seeing this? Grab this guy, polish him up. He’s a diamond. He won’t ever replace Freddy, nobody will and I doubt he thinks so. But if ever there was a voice that pays tribute, here’s your guy.

Amazing rendition. Closed my eyes and could have sworn I was 18 again listening to this song. Wow!!!

This is the closest representation of Freddie that Ive ever heard. Very similar texture and quality of voice. He even sings operatic stuff which Freddie did as well. In terms of him being a frontman for Queen up on stage for a tour, he possibley could be molded in that manner. The big test, however, is can he write new music in the style of Freddie? Highly unlikely. But if he can, I may start to believe in reincarnation!

What a great voice! Unfortunately, he’s not a very good impersonator of Freddie. Marc’s voice is not so similar, beside the vocal range, which would be pretty obvious for any Queen fan (like me). There was a lack of emotion in this cover that just makes listen the original version, or way better a live one, where Freddie nailed his own song. Anyway, great singer, but very different to the King Mercury. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LRt2jX1kaYo

Marc already lives in the US. I’ve seen Downhere in concert 4 times. Amazing singer for an amazing band. Of course, this is no surprise to me. We all knew it was only a matter of time before his voice got some notice. ;)
