Marie Osmond supports her gay daughter’s right to marry

You know what? It’s nice to be surprised by people, especially in a really good way. In a radio interview this week, Marie Osmond, a devout Mormon and mother of eight confirmed that her oldest daughter Jessica is gay, and that she totally supports her right to get married to someone she loves. Here’s what she had to say:

“You know, on those types of things I’m very supportive. When it comes to marriage, I think that civil rights need to be for all,” Osmond said. “When you start mixing religion into that and beliefs, you know, I do believe in the Bible. My daughter understands my beliefs. And, you know, God said to be married and be productive with your children and, you know, replenish the earth or whatever. She understands those things. My daughter is sharp. And we have a great relationship and I think she would tell you that.”

She also said that faith shouldn’t stand in the way of civil rights, and that the whole lesbian/gay marriage thing is NOT a sensitive subject – because she loves her daughter! Boy, if we all had mamas like that, right?
