Mario Lopez' "A Chorus Line" Cut Short Due to Katie Holmes' "All My Sons"

mario-lopez-01_nc.jpg

MSNBC is reporting that Mario Lopez‘ run in “A Chorus Line” has been cut short because of Katie Holmes‘ high anticipated Broadway debut in “All My Sons“.

They say it’s due to Katie’s short engagement with the show, which has forced producers to feature the play in a large musical theater instead of a smaller one, which is usually reserved for plays such as this one.

The only available large theater is the one where “A Chorus Line” has been showing.

How does Mario feel about this? Well, obviously we don’t know for sure, but a source told MSNBC, “He’s pissed. Let’s face it, he doesn’t have much going on right now.”

Why the limited run of “All My Sons”?

“Katie wouldn’t sign a long-term agreement with her show, which is why it’s the limited run that it is. They had to figure out how to make more money with the time they had with her,” says the MSNBC source.

Who knows how true any of this is, but if I was Mario, I would be mad too. But, that’s show biz I guess!

Hopefully the dimpled cutie has other plans to fill his time with.

If the play Katie is in is successful, surely they can replace her when her contract is up?? Lots of long running plays have done that as the play went on and people left for other projects or whatever. She has only signed on for what, 9 weeks??

    c. mom – I thought that the play was supposed to run for 4 months – I don’t have a great knowledge of Broadway plays, does this mean that Katie would only be in the beginning few weeks? It will be interesting to see what happens. Also (hopefully this is not a stupid “duh” question) are all Broadway plays musicals? I was wondering if anyone knew if Katie would be singing in the play? I’ve always enjoyed her singing voice and would love to hear more of it. Thanks :)

I’m hoping that a good run on Broadway will open up more dramatic movie roles for her. She does OK in the light-hearted comedies (though I wouldn’t say that is her best genre), but she shines in the dramatic roles.

I agree. I saw Mrs Tingle a while back and was pretty impressed. Yes, I have been seeing bits that it may run until like Jan. That is a long time for a young mom with a toddler to work 6 nights a week. Do they run thru the holdays like that as well??

All My Sons will have it’s limited run from September 18th to Jan 11th, 2009.
The producer has said that Katie along with the rest of the cast has signed on for it’s entire limited run.

*Katie*: No, not all Broadway plays are musicals,
with musicals the story is told through song and dance.

With Plays, music is not used to tell the story.
Sometimes you can find music in a play but generally it is not what is used to tell the story, the dialogue carries the story.

There is no doubt that being on Broadway is challenging but it seems that many from the newcomers to the veterans say that it is a very rewarding experience.

Mothers like Jennifer Garner and Julia Roberts have done it.

I don’t believe there are shows on Thanksgiving, Christmas or New Years.

Mary I was thinking the same. I am sure there are lots of mothers working on Broadway. Katie did give two years to Suri and for that I commend her. However she does have to cry on acting because she loves it. In any case, if she stopped acting and raised her baby for five years, this industry does not wait. Even Demi Moore has had a hard time trying to get back. Do not forget that people would criticise her husband for refusing her to work even if Katie said it was her desire to be full time mum.

    * sorry ‘carry on’ not ‘cry on’

  7. Tyler

As Lauren said, “Katie did give two years to Suri.”
    Need we say more?

LOL Tyler. Cute. That previous post would sort of indicate that having given two years to little Suri, Katie can now move on and promote herself. My statement was that a 9-10 week commitment of 6 nights a week would be difficult on any child let alone a child who is still considered a toddler at 2. Sure people have done it and will continue to do it. Since this is Katie’s dream anyway, I hope the play is successful and that she enjoys it because it could launch a whole new career for her. Broadway is tough tho and the critics can be harsh so everything better go smooth as butter for the whole cast and company, especially since they are going to do this limited run thing. I will say that they will make a mistake if they make this play thing all about Katie.
Booting another play out the door early to get the theatre is not in my view, a good first move. From all I have read, Stage people are just as tight in their groups as Hollywood people are in theirs, so don’t want to ruffle too many feathers..

Its the media who are trying to make the play all about Katie.

Plus, MSNBC is just speculating….trying to make a news out of nothing. From what I read “A Chorus Line” is scheduled to end on Aug. 17, while Katie’s play will start its preview on September.

There are always, always shake-ups after the Tony Awards that us why the producer said they would have to wait until after The Tonys before they can say which theatre All My Dons would occupy.

A Chorus Line was struggling as it was and got no Tony nominations. It’s run will end on August 17th.
There were plays with nominations and no wins that are ending their runs.

MSNBC is trying to create controversy where there is none.

LOL……….Typing too fast yet again. Of course I meant All My Sons. :)

All My Dons……….Not a bad title for a Broadway run of The Sopranos. Maybe???? :)

WAIT A MINUTE!!!!! Is Katie going to perform all the shows during the entire run….which is Sept.-Jan.?????? If not, thats sooo lame…. and so disappointing…..honestly, I was wondering if she really was going to be able to physically and emotionally commit to the entire run. If she cannot then I say thats pretty sad…. what are the facts…..is she signing on like a true actress for the entire run or not???

  13. Lauren

Jenna, according to the Producer of the show, she is committed for all the duration as indeed are the rest of the actors. It is not uncommon for actors to change mid-way a play. There is more to this play than Katie Holmes. The media has to make money. I hope we get to see Suri when they are living in NY.

Lauren…. thanks for the info!!! :)

Wishing Katie the very best for her career and family. Go girl!!
