Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen’s rise through the fashion ranks made StyleList’s 25 Biggest Style Stories of the Decade. MK and Ash are up there with YSL’s retirment in 2002 (and his passing away in 2008), Karl Lagerfeld launching the high-low fashion collaborations when he partnered with H&M in 2004, the premiere of Project Runway and more.
Styleist names the same reasons MK and Ashley made other lists of the decade — their emergence as fashion icons during their days at New York University and the critical and commercial success of their high-end lines launched in 2008, Elizabeth and James and the Row.

It’s kinda strange how MK and Ashley will never be able to reclaim their tween fan base that made their company a billion dollars in revenue at one point in their careers. Realistically, they changed too much as people (mentally and physically) to be able to keep that part of their business going. Most of the lines they marketed towards tweens have been shut down anyhow and they are focusing on their fashion lines, of course. However, those are proving to be successful and I think they have a real future in couture. I’m curious to see what will happen in the future for them.
I can’t believe they put Britney’s head shaving ordeal on that list LOL! Poor BritBrit…I’m glad she’s fine now!
