Mary-Kate Olsen at the Costume Institute Gala

Mary-Kate Olsen opted for period glamour as she donned Lacroix at last night’s Costume Institute Gala. The dress, adorned in metallic lace and silver-embroidered bustier-basque, was definitely a bold move and I think MK pulled it off.

This year’s theme was “The Model as Muse: Embodying Fashion”, which celebrated the Metropolitan Museum of Art exhibit of the same name. The exhibit celebrates the role of the model in fashion, as a model, a muse and more. It’s supposed to be spectacular, so if you’re in New York any time soon, be sure to check it out.

MK and Ash opted for very different looks this year. Whose do you like better? Whose would you be more inclined to wear? And why didn’t Nate come?

    Mary-Kate & Ashley Olsen at Bungalow 8

hmm…you’re right…I think it’s because it’s not so much a serious relationship between MK and Nate, as opposed to Justin and Ashley. I think they’re like two people with the same interests and hang out often, but I can only go as far as guessing.

Jen, that’s why I said I’m glad Justin bothered…he doesn’t like the whole being in the spotlight getting his picture taken thing at all, be it about his relationships or for an event or premiere. But he still made the effort for Ashley becausehe clearly cares for her.

I’m just wondering why Nate couldn’t do it for one night out of the entire year? Fair enough it might not be his thing but it’s not like he does much else anyways, you’d think he would go to this one event for MK.

It seems the only time he makes an appearance is when their’s a party or something where he and his other artsy friends can get thrashed.

I’m sorry but Nate is starting to dip in standards…MK is way to good for him on every single level.

Lauren, I’m (pleasantly) shocked that Justin showed up to this event. I thought their relationship was on the down-lo…I feel kinda bad that Mary-Kate came alone, but by the looks of it, she had fun. I think Nate would feel out-of-place if he came to this event.

I’m not too crazy about either gown…but because of the shape of Mary-Kate’s I’d be more inclined to wear her gown.

I was also wondering why Nate didn’t show up? Maybe this type of event isn’t something he’d be into. I did read somewhere though that Nate had an art exhibition coming up in Venice or somewhere in that region and that he was working on new art pieces for it, maybe that’s why he chose to skip it.

It still weird though that he never accompanies MK to anything like this, but she goes to all of his events…I kind of seems like a one sided relationship…kind of like he takes more than he gives…or maybe I’m just over analysing it.

At least Ashley’s boyfriend bothered to show up.

I prefer Ashley’s look. It’s simple, understated and glamorous at the same time. Plus, she created the gown herself which makes it even more special. The back of her dress is where the money’s at =P I thought Ashley was the best of the night. No one looked like her, but I do see myself wearing MK’s gown more just because it’s more me.
