It’s finally here! We’ll be doing the Open Mic tonight at 9:00 ET. If you can make it and chat, that would be great, but if not, the transcript will be here for you after the show ends.

Sorry I missed the Open Mic, but I just got finished watching the episode. OMG!!! That was SO FREAKIN’ AMAZING!! What a fantastic episode! That opener was a shocker. I was almost in tears when the doctor was telling Joe that he had to pull the plug on Allison. Poor Joe!! He was so devastated and heartbroken.( Can I just say how amazing Jake Weber was in that scene?) And seeing Allison struggling to get out of bed, and so handicapped-WOW! Patricia Arquette played that part perfectly. She nailed it. (Of course, she almost always does!) It was so difficult seeing Allison struggling like that, and seeing the strain that it was putting on the family, especially Ariel. And Bridgette is getting such a little attitude! That one’s gonna give them trouble for sure!
My favorite line was when Joe said to Allison- “But you don’t dream anymore.” and she replied, “I hate to break it to you, but that’s all about to change.” Lol! He should have known that it would be too good to last, lol! And how cool was it for them to change up the way she was seeing things now, in actual visions instead of dreams. I wonder if that’s going to continue. That would be a neat little thing to add to their bag of tricks. I mean they’ve done it before, but not to that extent, and never in such a clever way, like deja vu. These writers continue to amaze me with the incredibly inventive ways they come up with to tell a story and the stories that they come up with. They are without a doubt some of the best writers in television. I’m not psychic, but if the rest of the season is as freakin’ awesome as this episode was, then this is gonna be one of their best seasons ever. I’m so excited that Medium is back!!

And how exciting does next week’s episode look? OMG!! That’s gonna be a really good one! Can’t wait! MEDIUM’S BACK! YAAAYYYYY!!!

Thanks for watching… you guys help keep us on the air. We’re all very proud of this season.

    Cheers,

    Larry Teng

  3. Kona Gallagher

Thanks for stopping by, Larry! The premiere was great, and we’re looking forward to the rest of the season as well.

Note: Larry is a producer on Medium. He was also a producer on another of my favorite shows, Ed.

[...] We had our first open mic last night for the premiere, and I want to thank everyone who stopped by and either chatted or just hung out with us, and if you weren’t there, you can read the transcript. [...]

  5. Mike

Wow, that episode was great. It was one of the best premieres Medium has ever had. Next weeks looks great too! I heard that Medium had the most total viewers of the whole night, that’s so exciting. If the rest of the season is as good as that episode it will be awesome!

  6. Kelly

Good show. I would love to join you guys for the open mic but I don’t keep a TV in the computer room. Maybe next week I will try and run back and forth during the comm breaks to chat about it.

  7. Linda

Good point about the glove, I never noticed that. I did notice the lack of buttons on her pyjamas, a nice, small touch to how her stroke was affecting her.

I want to formulate my thoughts first before commenting more, I did love the episode though.

I think it’ll be really interesting if the visions continue next week, especially since Ariel’s involved.

Joe had another dream in the season 1 finale where he dreamed Bridgette disappeared/wandered off whilst buying socks. But I can’t remember if that opened the episode.

  8. Betty

OMG! One of the producers stopped by! How very cool. Sorry I couldn’t join for the live chat, don’t have access at home.

What a terrific episode! Not too much on the Joe job thing – hoepfully it will stay that way.

Allison had always had flashes like these when she would shake someone’s hand, touch something, walk into a room, just not in every case. Sometimes the info would be fleshed out in a dream later.

Unfortunately, we are stuck with DiNovi. Darnit! Let’s hope she will take concentrated acting lessons, or be too busy to appear on camera with the new baby. I’d love to see Lee interact with his baby, just can’t stand DiNovi’s poor acting skills – PLEASE pull a soap opera and replace her with a different actress – one who can ACT!

I think they handled a lot of questions in this episode. I wonder if they actually had to think about removing Allison from life support at some point?

  9. karen

That is so cool. I must say though I really like the Scanlon DiNovi story and think they could do so much with it since she is also deputy mayor. They could get a lot of good stories out of that. Can’t wait to see them with Little Lee.

  10. Amy

I am going to try to do the open mic next Friday if I can.

I thought it was a good epsisode with the Deja Vu visions.I Liked the twist to the main story.

Joes work story has got to go this season.

Btw I really like the Scanlon- Dinovi thing especially now that they have a baby. Can’t wait to meet Little Leigh. I like Tina Dijoseph as Lynn and hope they would never pull a soap stunt.

I heard they won in the ratings for Friday night even beating GW and numbers.
    Keep it up Medium!!!

  11. Karen

I meant it was cool that one of the producers stopped by not the soapa opera
stunt. I like Tina Dijoseph as Lynn too.

Looking foward to open mic on Friday again!!

  12. Linda

I do think the actress playing DiNovi has got better over time, still I prefer my Dubois family time, although I am really intrigued to know more about Scanlon adapting to fatherhood, considering the reveal of his own father.

Bridgette was her normal, hilarious self. “Do you even know where to get one, Daddy?” Hee!

  13. Gina

I agree with you Linda, The actress playing Dinovi has improved a lot and I like that part of the show. I find their relationship interesting. I am intrigued to see how they adapt to the baby too.

  14. Gina

I also agree with Linda that the actress who plays Dinovi has gotten much better and I thought she was great the last couple seasons.

I love to see the Dubois family eating meals together and I love to see Scanlon. I like his thing with the deputy mayor and love to see them also.

  15. nansee

Betty, you know I agree with you about Lynn ;) I guess we’re in the minority! I really don’t see that she’s any less cardboard than she was when we were first introduced to deputy doll. I’m still rooting for her to killed melodramatically, though, by someone Scanlon put behind bars. Shooting, poison, fall from a building, fall from a tree, terminal illness, lightning strike, football injury, vampire attack, hit by an asteroid … anything works for me.

  16. Betty

nansee, you crack me up! I really can’t see that she’s improved either -maybe it’s just wishful thinking on their part since we seem to be stuck with her forever more.

Let’s make it abundantly clear, we think Tina DiJospeh is probably a very nice person in real life and want no harm to come to her. However, she cannot act – it is painful watching her try. A very melodramatic end to the character would be fantastic! It would give David Cubitt Emmy worthy material to work with plus we’d get to see him struggle to raise his baby daughter by himself! Oh the story possibilities!

  17. Kelly

Oh Dear, I love everything about Medium (except Joes Job). I love to see the Dubois family together and I love to see Scanlon and DiNovi. I remember when he used to call her deputy doll and now they have a baby. How sweet is that!!

I agree with Linda that the actress that plays Lynn has improved a lot. I didn’t care for her the first season but she has improved each season and I thought she did great with the whole pregnancy storyline. She did not seem “wooden” at all to me.

  18. Linda

I can handle DiNovi in small doses, I’m not yet at the stage where I would want Lynn-centric episodes!

  19. Amy

FYI They have a trivia quiz from last Fridays episode on the CBS Medium site. It was fun. They show you the answer in a clip. I missed the part when Scanlon calls her Dr House(saw it on the clip) funny. Sad to say I scored 80/100.

Wow! You have some strong remarks about Lynn. I always liked her and Scanlon.
Don’t kill off Little Lee’s mom please. LOL

Before giving my opinion to be fair-minded, I just went back and looked at a season 5 episode with Lynn, there are not too many. I scanned through “A Taste of Her Own Medicine”( I downloaded some Season 5 shows from i-tunes a while ago).
And I thought she was really good. I loved the scene when Scanlon arrives to the party and hugs her and says “I’m an ass” she says “a big ass , my ass”. I thought that was great. She was good in all her other scenes too. Nothing wooden at all. I agree that she was not so good in season one guys but she is become much better. Give her a chance.

  20. Karen

That was a great episode. Can’t wait to get the dvd’s from season 5 to watch it again. I really don’t see what the problem is why they don’t like her. Maybe they can’t forgive her from the first season.

  21. Gina

Her acting has improved so much since season one. She was great in season’s four and five so that’s not the reason some people don’t like her.

I saw an interview with Glenn Gordon Caron about two or three years ago. She is friends with Patricia Arquette and married to Caron. In the interview he says it was her idea to cast Patricia as Allison. It seems they wrote a small part of Lynn for her. In the first season she was new at acting and not that good so people were upset she had the part. She is really good now though but some are still upset. I think they should just get over it already.

Patricia Arquette has had her son, daughter, husband and sister all guest star on the show. I think that is great. They seem like a really close cast and all work well together. I hope that answers your question Karen

  22. Amy

    H….mmmm Intersting!

Well ,I don’t care who she is friends with or married to as long as I like her storyline which I do. Can’t wait to see them with little Leigh.

She must be doing something right to illicit such strong feelings from the one who wants her to die in so many catastrophies. But you know what they say in show business Any Publicity is Good Publicity.

Love to chat about Medium all day but I better grab lunch before my break is over.

  23. Betty

The fact is, Tina DiJoseph is not a good actress. The other fact is, the ONLY reason she has this job is because she is married to Glen Gordon Caron. As someone who has acted and directed, I’ve directed children in their first play who do a better job than her. I’ve worked in community theater with folks who can outshine her skills on their worst day. She is stiff, wooden, awkward and has no depth. She is painful to watch. My heart goes out to her costars who are saddled with acting alongside her. Look her up in the IMDB. There is NOTHING on it besides Medium prior to 2009. There is now ONE movie in which she has a very minor part – again – likely only because of who she is married to. There are children who have more on their resumes then her.

I agree she has shown a very SLIGHT improvement in her skills, but very minor at that. She brings down the credibility of an otherwise stellar cast. Medium is able to attract big names as co-stars because of the respect they have for Patricia Arquette and her acting chops. I cringe every time I see Tina Di Joseph’s name as a co-star.

Don’t confuse “the idea of a character” with the actor’s ability to act. You may like the character of Deputy Doll and the fact that Scanlon has this relationship and is now a Daddy – something he’s shown he’s ready for on the show and had a desire to do. It would be ten times more satisfying with a capable actress cast in the part.

Yes, Patricia has had members of her family on this show. I have no problem with that because they’ve all done terrific jobs. It’s apparent they have done their homework and have skills as actors. Her brothers and sisters are all respected as actors. When her son was on the show, he did a terrific job. I wouldn’t have known he was related to anyone in the cast if it hadn’t been reported in the media because he fit right in. Di Jospeh always sticks out when she is present – and not in a good way.

Someone who is a superb actor can tell a story without even saying a word. Di Joseph would merely be a post if she said nothing.

  24. Kelly

Okay, we are all entitled to our own opinions here. It is obvious that some strongly dislike the actress who plays Lynn and others really like her.

In my OPINION she has improved significantly from the earlier seasons. I admit she was “wooden” in the beginning but is not anymore. In my OPINION she was great in season five and four also.

I don’t care about who she is married to or friends with. I like her as Lynn. I like her with Scanlon they both seem to be the types to hold back and are good for each other. It will be nice to see how they act with the baby.

I don’t like to see people get mean about their opinions because we are entitled to our own. Just as with Joes job most hate it but some have
actually said they like that part. But neither is a fact it is an opinion.
You can’t call it a fact that someone is a good or bad actor it is an opinion.

  25. Karen

Well I always liked Tina as Lynn and her thing with Scanlon.

I am going to be open-minded here and go download that episode from season five she was in from i-tunes ,if it is still available. I will get back to you later with my own honest opinion.

My husband already thinks I’m a little obsessed with Medium. I wonder what he is going to say when he sees me downloading the episodes and critiqueing the actors.

  26. nansee

Betty, how do you really feel? LOL ;) I’m sure she’s probably a nice woman, too. No football injuries for her, just her Lynn. I’d love to watch David Cubitt get to act through Lynn’s fortunate demise.

So not only is she GGC’s wife, she suggested Patricial Arquette for the Allison role? Maybe she’d be a good casting director …

For the sake of fairness, the next time she’s on my TV, I’m going to watch her acting carefully to see if it has improved. Karen, my husband thinks I’m a little obsessed when it comes to Medium, too.

  27. Betty

nansee, how’s the baby? Everything settling down now that you are getting used to each other?

As I’ve said before, I’m sure Tina DiJospeh is a lovely woman in real life and a great mother. nansee, I think you’re on to something! Maybe she would serve the show better as casting director!

  28. Gina

There is a video on you tube of an interview of Glenn Gordon Caron talking about how Patricia Arquette was cast as Allison. You can see it for yourselves. I saw an older one a few years ago. This one on you tube is from a few weeks ago Sept 2009. He mostly talks about stuff happening in season six but he does mention how Patricia came upon the part.

  29. nansee

Thanks Gina, I’ll see if I can find it.

Betty, my colicky tiny terror is not much better. We’ve changed formulas and tried various drugstore drops to no avail. I’ve just been able to get him to sleep since he awoke at 3 a.m. … wait, his head just turned toward me and his arms moved. Nooooo! Oh dear. There goes my idea of getting a third hour of sleep. Maybe they can cast me as an extra in the Night of the Living Dead ep. I hope he grows out of it soon. Oh No! Eyes are open. A sneeze! Legs are wiggling! Gotta go …

  30. Betty

Bless your heart nansee! Have you tried swaddling him and swooshing/shooshing in his ear? You may need to change formulas again. My middle child had to be fed every 2 hours around the clock and in between had to be held all the time. I learned how to do everything with only 1 hand! She would only sleep for maybe 15 minutes during the day. The only way I got any sleep was to take her to bed with me.

Make sure he has plenty of wet and poopy diapers to make sure everything is working right and there isn’t something else going on with him. Does he burp OK when feeding? Is he gaining weight OK? Does anything soothe him? Music? Singing? Rocking? Cuddling?

I hope you have someone who can take over for you for a few hours here and there so you can get a break.

  31. Karen

I watched ” A Taste of Her Own Medicine” from season 5.

Sorry it took me so long I had to wait for my husband to take the boys to scouts. I can’t watch Medium with the kids around. Last year I was watching Four Dreams on dvd and I didn’t know the boys were behind my chair. They saw the mommy monkey get shot and go splat and the blood pour out. I never saw them run upstairs so fast. My daughter likes to watch Ariel and Bridgette but she runs too at the hint of danger. Medium can clear a room at my house except my husband he likes it.

So, Betty, Please don’t hate me but overall I think she was terrific in this episode. There was one part I didn’t like. When Scanlon came home and woke her up at 3:20 am she rubbed his back briskly with a closed fist. It would have been nicer if it was slower with an open fist. Other than that I thought she was really good.

I didn’t like the way she told him she was pregnant at 3:20 as he was walking in the bathroom by joking about morning sickness, but that is the writers who did that. Also they made Scanlon look bad when he told Devolos he hoped it would just “go away’ referring to the pregnancy .

Well, I thought overall it was a really good episode and Tina did a great job.
But this is just my opinion

  32. Kelly

I loved that episode with Blythe Danner in it. Can’t wait for the dvd’s to watch it again.

I remember thinking the same thing when Lynn told Lee she was pregnant, but I guess she knew he would not react well and had to tell him sooner or later because she was already showing. Strange he couldn’t figure it out on his own since he is a detective.

I am one of them that likes Tina Di as Lynn, but I think we are going to have to agree to diagree on this topic. No one seems likely to change their opinions on this.I checked my e-mail before and there were 11 e-mails about this today.
My husband saw it and now he says I’m obsessed with Medium too.

  33. Betty

Karen, I don’t hate anyone on this site! Someone had posted they just didn’t understand why some of us don’t care for Tina DiJospeh as Lynn DiNovi and I merely explained my opinion on the matter.

That’s what this site is all about. Fans of Medium come to discuss what we like and don’t like about a show we love.

Think of it this way, if at your job, your boss got married to someone much younger than he was and then put her in a prominent position in the company, although she had no skills for the position. Her only qualifications for the job were the fact she married the boss. In fact, other, more qualified applicants were turned down because she took the position. All the other employees were very good at their jobs, but every time they were in social or business situations, the boss’s wife and her lack of knowledge, experience, and aptitude for the position were evident and reflected poorly on the company since she is also a representative of that company.

Or think of it like you were all invited to a “black and white” party where semi formal attire is required and everyone wears black or white and here comes the boss’s wife wearing a green sweat suit! She just doesn’t fit.

If I didn’t care so much for the show and the really terrific cast, it really wouldn’t matter to me.

I don’t hate anyone here, I’m merely expressing my opinion and why it bothers me that she has the part.

  34. Amy

I agree with you Kelly we should be able to discuss topics and disagree about stuff in this forum. Like we have been doing with Joes job all along.
Sorry about your e-mail being full of medium dreams posts yesterday but for some reason everyone got carried away with this discussion.

  35. Kelly

Oh Goodness, here come my e-mails on “open mic” again today. LOL just kidding. I really don’t mind. It was just funny yesterday. I had a dozen on this topic and more on the other topic so my page was full of Medium Dreams and my husband saw it and thinks this is what I must do all day at work.

Betty,I read your post for Karen and believe me I get what you are saying. But what I am saying is, I think she is good and I like her as Lynn. Maybe it is because she has been playing Lynn since season one and I’m used to her. That is the way Lynn is supposed to be. I interpret her character to be a lot like Scanlon, kind of keeps things inside. Doesn’t let her emotions show and there are a lot of people like that in real life. So I think Scanlon and Lynn are good for each other. I would really hate if they replaced her and someone else played the part because that would not be the Lynn I know and like.

And I do think she has improved a great deal from season one.

  36. Amy

Here we go again, I couldn’t say it better Kelly. I like the way she plays Lynn.
I find their relationship interesting since she is the deputy mayor and I like her with Scanlon. I would hate to see anyone else play the role because that would not be Lynn. They do that alot in the saops and it is never the same. It takes years to get used to the new person.
She was really good in season 5. You could see a big improvement since season one!

  37. Gina

I wasn’t going to get involved and comment about this today but I just read a post on IT’S Official Medium Season Five and the girl lives in another country where they aired A Taste off Her Own Medicine last week or last night . She said how she had a box of tissues for the scene at the end with the party when they reunite. I loved that scene too .It was great So I don’t understand why some of you think she is so bad. Maybe she used to be but she has gotten so much better.
She was great in that whole episode and I don’t think she was in many during season 5 because she was really pregnant. I think she was really good during season four also. I actualy noticed a big improvement during season three so she probably took lessons to cause such a big improvement.

  38. Karen

I know I am on late today at least for me. My kids are in year round school and are currently on a three week break. So I was out entertaining them all day.

That’s okay Betty. I know you don’t hate me. I was joking about it because I know how strong your opinion is on this.

I really tried to be fair about it but I thought she did a great job.

I felt bad about critiquing the part when Scanlon came in at 3:20 am because others might think that was fine, maybe she was worried about telling Scanlon she was pregnant so she used the quick closed fist. I shouldn’t be the judge.

I guess we have to disagree about this.

I do agree with you about Joes job being a drag.
