Medium Episode 5.02 Things to do in Phoenix When You're Dead Open Mic Recap

Premiere Of HBO's

If you missed it, here’s the recap of the Medium episode 5.02 open mic.

9:58

Hoorah! Monday again.

10:02

And we open with a heart monitor beeping and then flatlining.

10:03

Allison wakes up when the man dies.

10:03

Falls back asleep and the dead guy is watching a hot and heavy scene.

10:04

The guy kills the woman he is kissing.

10:04

The dead guy is just sitting there watching.

10:05

The killer drags the woman off and leaves her body by a bridge.

10:06

The dead guy watches the whole thing. The woman is still alive and is gasping for breath. The killer hears her, comes back, gets a rock and finishes her off. He obviously doesn’t see the dead guy.

10:09

Joe wakes up and asks, “Didn’t we already do this?”

10:09

Ah, Ariel! I missed you.

10:10

She comes in and perkily announces it is the day she gets to find out who she’s having a baby with. Joe is mildly alarmed.

10:11

Ah, for wellness class. That’s a bit less stressful. Although Bridg is still impressed. She thinks Ariel is snagging a real baby for an assignment.

10:13

Scanlon explains that is why he always hangs around until the credits are over after Allison says that the fingernails must have come off after she woke up.

10:13

Ariel is happy because she has a cute husband.

10:14

The dead guy does not meet Allison at the bathrooms as she asked. However, Scanlon shows up and makes several witty cracks about women who hang around mens’ rooms.

10:15

Ah, the man with the scratched face. He’s a high powered type.

10:16

He’s getting a call from someone who knows everything about the last two minutes of poor Kimberly Weeks’ life. Blackmail.

10:17

A brown paper package is on his desk. He opens it and finds Kimberly’s fingernail in a box.

10:20

Kimberly was a call girl.

10:20

Ariel is enjoying this assignment alot.

10:21

She keeps laughing and drops the baby on the ground.

10:21

And poor little Bridg is babysitting and overwhelmed.

10:22

Joe sends her off to tell Ariel to tend to her child or he’s reporting her to social services.

10:23

And Allison is seeing the blackmailer. She’s saying the exact same thing, but the dead guy is hanging around in the background.

10:23

When she wakes up, Ariel’s baby is bawling. Joe mutters that he suddenly is not looking forward to being a grandfather.

10:24

Allison is trying to find an obit for the dead guy.

10:25

Joe suggests another avenue. Allison is in the hospital trying to find out if a man died matching the description of the dead guy. The answer is no.

10:25

Allison finds him at a playground.

10:26

He doesn’t want to help.

10:27

He isn’t a ghost. He’s a surgeon.

10:31

Allison now thinks she was wrong about the blackmailer because the ghost is very much alive.

10:32

Ariel is neglecting the baby again. Joe can’t even do a work call.

10:32

She acts completely out of it.

10:33

She acts like a pothead.

10:34

Ariel was actually taking care of the baby for once and screamed because she saw a man listening to Joe and Allison through their door.

10:35

Joe – The living dead guy?

10:35

Either he’s alive and running around playing with his kids or he’s dead and scaring the heck out of mine. He can’t be both.

10:36

And the killer with the rok again. Now, he’s running away and the doctor is checking his watch. Okay, Victoria, it’s time.

10:36

And he’s shocked back to life.

10:38

“It was a close one.” and then he tells the woman who shocked him back what he saw. It was a deliberate out of body experience so he could find someone doing something blackmail worthy.

10:41

Allison confronts Dr. Seward.

10:43

He explains that he has a brain tumor and is just trying to get enough cash to care for his wife and child.

10:45

Allison doesn’t care. He has to stop. But if he gives her the name of the killer, she won’t give his name to the DA.

10:45

He will, as long as she waits til 5.

10:46

Joe is worried about Ariel. She seems to be driving just fine. Then, she picks up the baby and is instantly high.

10:47

Drops the doll and is herself again.

10:48

Joe gives Adam the doll. He starts asking Adam questions about his allergies.

10:49

Joe tells Adam that he is getting a divorce and now has sole custody of the baby. Adam objects and Joe asks if he wants to talk to his ex mother in law.

10:49

Smart Joe. He put it together fast.

10:49

The killer was apprehended.

10:51

Dr. Seward and the doctor who revives him are having a discussion ending with, “She’ll never even know.” Hah.

10:52

And Dr. Seward is out of his body again, but the other doctor didn’t revive him. Victoria is a killer.

10:55

Victoria’s flying down the road in her fancy car.

10:55

She arrives at a diner.

10:56

Allison is the only one there. She repeats the words Victoria said to Dr. Seward.

10:57

Then she talks to her about Dr. Seward and his murder.

10:58

To distract her while Dr. Seward’s wife takes the half million out of Victoria’s trunk.

10:59

Victoria isn’t happy.

10:59

And that’s all folks.

10:59

Hi, Katelyn! Sorry I missed the Open Mic, but being a West coaster, it’s hard to comment when I don’t get to see it until later. But I just wanted to say that I loved this episode. Last week’s was good but this one was better. Some hilarious moments for sure, but I also loved the twist in the mystery this time. It took me a while to figure out how the guy could be dead AND alive, and I was surprised when it was revealed how that was possible. I also loved the way Allison set up the guy’s partner at the end! That was too perfect! And when she told her, “He’s got my number.”, I cracked up!!

The storyline with Ariel was great too, and the way Joe handled that was brilliant! Ya gotta love Joe! (Perfect husband, perfect dad- this guy is just TOO perfect!)

Oh and Bridgette’s “Red Rum” analogy was priceless!!! ROFLMAO!! Classic Bridgette!!

Thanks Katelyn! Still no one showed? Sorry, but I don’t have internet at home, if I’d stayed at the office, I don’t have a TV there. I barely made it home in time. Thanks for what you do Katelyn! We need to send out an SOS to our MIA posters.

I do have to say it’s so nice to see Scanlon so far in each ep with his usual sense of humor – especially this week with his crack about the credits!

nansee, Rachel at least we haven’t had any Deputy Doll sightings so far! Yea! I keep hoping she will have broken up with Scanlon and left town. She’s improved slightly, but not enough to keep her on this show, she should go to a soap opera and hone her, ahem, talent.

Dawn, did you get some rain in La La Land? We need some in TX, so send it our way, OK?

OH, Emily Bergl was on Gilmore Girls and Men in Trees. She was good in both – she was evil here.

I liked this episode better than the first one. It reminded me of that movie Flatliners a little, but I still didn’t figure out how Seward (I wonder if they named after a character in Dracula on purpose) was dead and alive at the same time until they told me. Poor high Ariel … she had no idea what hit her. Allison really giving it to that woman at the end was great. Yea Allison! Although she did worry me a bit confronting possibly murderous strangers on her own (Maybe she gets a feel for whether she’ll be safe or not? I hope so.)

Betty, I loved all of Scanlon’s comments to Allison about soliciting at the men’s restoom. LOL And waiting until the credits roll. :)

I saw or heard a nasty rumor somewhere that Deputy Doll might have a baby bump in an upcoming episode … please, nooooo! Wasn’t the actress herself expecting or some such during filming? If so, it’d make sense, but this would mean she will require actual scenes on my television. Although it would mean more Scanlon. I wonder if I could get a Lynn Blocker for my TV …

Oh nansee! How I’ve missed you! OMG! Say it ain’t so about her having a baby bump – now we’ll never get rid of her! Maybe it’s just an ugly rumor, like Ariel using drugs – she wasn’t actually using drugs, it was the object of her affection from her class that she was sharing the baby with. Ariel still has her lovely locks so far.

No Marie this week, or did I just miss her? I came in late and was trying to fix dinner and look at my mail, so I didn’t have my full attention on the screen, but I did record it for a 2nd look sometime this weekend.

    Welcome back nansee!

    Betty,
Marie was there very briefly. It definitely wasn’t a long appearance.

Thank you for your summary. This episode was on Dutch TV last Sunday evening. Because of extended commercials the programme ended 2 mins. later than my video stopped recording it. Now, I know how it all ended!

    Hi Peter,
I’m glad it helped! I’ve fallen asleep on the last few minutes of a show before. It is so sad to spend a whole hour watching and not know the ending.
