Medium Episode 5.05 A Taste of Her Own Medicine

sipaphotostwo284423-NY-LOVE-BENEFIT

Hey, everyone. I’m traveling, so I may or may not end up in front of a TV with an internet connection by the time Medium airs tonight at 10 pm EST. I don’t want you to miss out, though, so I’m putting up the open mic format from years past. Please feel free to chat back and forth if I don’t appear!

This episode is A Taste of Her Own Medicine with Blythe Danner.

To make sure you have something to snack on, I’ve asked some friends to drop by and put out some refreshments. Fruit smoothies, fresh tortilla chips and salsa from that amazing Riviera Maya Mexican restaurant we discovered in Rising Sun, Maryland and some of their great mini soft tacos, too. Enjoy!

Can’t wait for tonight’s episode! Katelyn, I hope wherever you are traveling it’s away from the snow storm on the East Coast!

Blythe Danner should be a terrific guest!

I have to say I wasn’t very pleased with the way they handled the whole Scanlon/Deputy Doll thing – really clumsy. Of course, I was hoping against hope we wouldn’t have to be subjected to DiNovi’s lack of talent again this year, but no, here we go again and I fear will never get rid of her. As far as I can tell, her acting hasn’t improved at all and there is ZERO chemistry between her and Scanlon.

If they only would go back to the beginning of Season 3 and the dream sequence, Scanlon was secretly dreaming of being a Dad, so this episode didn’t ring true at all on that front.

The other part of it was how far along Deputy Doll is – she’s already gained significant weight – you can see it in her face and back side – she has a pretty good sized baby bump making her about 5 months along at least. The way she was talking, no one could tell as long as she was at her desk? I don’t think so. I’m sure Allison would have picked up on this way before this amount of time had passed.

They really made Scanlon a HUGE JERK in this which is contrary to his nature. Clumsy writing, very clumsy.

The other issued I had with this ep, when Allison dreams about the lady who was dumped in the lake, she clearly sees her being beaten with a bat, however, when she has a later dream about the missing daughter, she clearly gave her poison, thus making it unnecessary to beat her to death with a bat – that would have been overkill.

However, I am glad Allison was possessed by another spirit or doing the bidding of some evil dead guy.

Ratings were the lowest of the season due to the huge Bachelor finale.

Betty, ITA about the Scanlon/Deputy Doll storyline and their continued lack of chemistry. He’d have more chemistry with a potted plant. I’ve been dreading this “Why Is a Preggers Lynn On My TV” episode. You’re so right about the improbability of her having all THAT hidden behind a desk for eight hours a day. Yikes! Being in the early stages of pregnancy myself, I will now likely have nightmares of me wearing that dress from the final scene (Was it green and did it really shimmer like that, or am I hallucinating?) I will say, at least we finally get to see a real pregnant woman on TV and not a celebrity who looks like an emaciated stick with a balloon under her shirt.

I liked the creative beginning with the take on Juno, save for my staring bug-eyed at a certain aforementioned someone’s wooden acting. Maybe this will be the first and last ep of the season for her. (I just had a thought … Since we’re both pregnant non-actors, maybe I could fill in for her sometime.) ITA Scanlon was an unmitigated ass … I wouldn’t expect him to be thrilled based on his behavior in previous episodes, but I thought it was a bit too much as well. But he’s still so cute. Drool. This sub-plot seemed to be stuck in because she was pregnant. And in real life, I doubt that happy resolution would last for long before a guy who behaved like Scanlon did for 5-8 months reverted to his “get me out of this” behavior. I noticed that he wears a watch to bed, also, for God sake … he’s ready to make a run for it!

As for the main plot, I enjoyed it, but I’m probably in the minority in saying that I can’t believe they gave us another episode in which Allison lets another nutjob murderer off the hook. Does someone on the writing staff have something they need to tell someone? That little girl is going to swim gleefully in a swimming pool with a dead woman underneath it? Blythe Danner’s (who I thought was great) character poisoning her daughter with that fast-acting poison and then suffocating her is an over-the-counter brand of crazy. Her character said that she thought something was “missing” from her daughter, and I wonder where she got that from … I can’t help but imagine the little granddaughter whom she hysterically loves ending up nuts, too. Quit feeling sorry for her and retrieve the glasses, Allison! She’s not really Blythe Danner, so you don’t have to be nice!

Also, Joe needs naps? That’s the diagnosis? When is he supposed to take naps, after working all day, eating dinner with the family, and putting the kids to bed? That’s called going to bed, not taking a nap.

Sorry so long … If this sounds like I didn’t like the episode, I did. I actually liked it better than the previous one. Oh, and Marie was cute! Almost forgot to mention that. I can’t believe people are watching The Bachelor instead of Medium, Betty!

I can’t believe people wasted their viewing hours on The Bachelor either, but what can you do?
Betty, I actually drove right into the storm. Fun, huh?
I was able to skim through the episode, but I’m hoping to have a nice, leisurely second viewing tonight. My mom raved about it, but is planning to skip next week because of the sci-fi/end of the world type storyline.

nansee, congratulations on the pregnancy! Too funny about you filling in for Deputy Doll! I’m sure you’d do an excellent job!

No, you weren’t seeing things – that dress was major ugly. Who is the wardrobe person on Medium anyway? They pick some of the most unflattering outfits.

One line that just drove me insane and I don’t have it verbatim, but Scanlon remarking about the pregnancy that he was hoping he wouldn’t have to deal with it that it would “take care of itself” or something like that – I almost threw a pillow at the TV! He may have had that attitude in his early years, but since he’s met Allison and thought about what he really wants in life, he’s changed, hence his relationship with Deputy Doll – it’s just too bad they didn’t pick an actual actress that would make the scenes fun to watch. If Deputy Doll didn’t expect “anything from him” it seems she wouldn’t have been so ashamed about her pregnancy and trying to hide it.

Katelyn, I hope the storm didn’t give you too much trouble.

I didn’t watch the bachelor – but there was so much hype in the media about this one because the guy had a kid. Ratings were way up this year, best since the first years it was on. go figure. There was a lot of talk about a big twist in his choice. I guess with all the bad news about the economy folks are looking for mindless entertainment – you don’t get much more mindless than The Bachelor!
