MED-041 Summary | All Episodes
Huh. They are showing scenes from Season One after saying, “Previously on Medium.” That’s weird. Oh, I get it! It’s all the Dr. Charles “the butcher” Walker set up with a little Catherine-the-medium thrown in. Bet we see her again this episode. Hee!
And look how cute Allison looks with her long hair and no bangs.
Charles Walker: Ladies, if you’ll kindly take a seat in the waiting room the doctor and I will finish up and be with you shortly.
Ooh, creepy yet sexy. Yummy Mark Sheppard.
Back in the days of the Old West, Charles Walker’s wife has been in labor for over 30 hours and the doctor tells him he must consider an alternate method of delivery. But he won’t. His wife is the most important thing in the world to him. The baby is the most important thing in the world to the wife, though, so the doctor locks Charles Walker (“CW”) out of the room and we hear Maura Walker scream.
It’s a boy. He killed her. That stupid old doctor killer her!
CW loved his wife with all his heart. It s heartbreaking the way he holds her dead body. So much blood. The doctor sliced her up to get the baby out. Well, that explains where CW got his M.O.
Alison wakes up to a chatty Bridgette who tells her she will feel better in the morning and, by the way, she is hungry.
They are giving Bridgette more lines this season. And she is good at them!

Allison visits Catherine, the medium from the Pilot played by Margo Martindale, looking for answers about the CW dreams she has been having. She doesn’t understand why she dreamed of his past and not his current victim or the person he is working his mojo through.
Catherine tells her to trust that it will all reveal itself eventually…and gives her grocery store coupons. *snort*
At the grocery store, Allison hears CW say something about slicing up the middle and turns to see a winsome young girl just a few years older than Ariel. Her name is Amanda and Allison sees her on a surgical table with CW standing over her. Aha! The victim!
At the dinner table, Ariel gets permission to watch TV news for her current events class (??) and Joe comments on Allison’s lack of appetite. She is bummed she didn’t see something useful, like the face of the man CW plans to use to get to the girl.
Old West dream: CW opens up shop as a physician and his first patient is a girl who looks just like Amanda. Oh dear. She meets a grisly end involving a scalpel and blood spurting on walls! Euw!

Oh great, Allison is now a stalker and is following Amanda everywhere. Just as she finally approaches her, CW shows up! At least it looks just like CW. Allison is going nutso screaming for help and the girl needs protective custody and she knows no one else can see the man she is talking about…when a cop runs up and takes the real life, living and breathing CW down.
What??
Turns out his name is Jack Walker (“JW”), he is a 36 year old computer repairman, and he met Amanda when she T-boned his car at an intersection. She wanted to keep the accident from her parents so he is letting her pay off the damages a little at a time. The image Allison saw of her with a doctor was him helping her get treatment after the accident. He was meeting her today to pick up an installment payment on the auto damage.
Oops.
Allison arrives home late. Again. How is it that she seems unable to keep track of time? Or at least already know it is late without having to be told? Hmph.
Joe tells her dinner is in the fridge but she pulls out a beer instead.
Joe: Oh good. I was worried I was going to have to keep after you to eat something from the alcohol food group.
Allison: Back off. I had an innocent man arrested today because I thought he was a ghost.
Joe decides to have a beer, too.
Allison says the most surprising thing is how nice JW was. He said he won’t press charges and even told Scanlon there were no hard feelings.
Joe says that’s nice but, if the girl was never in any danger, then why is Allison having dreams about CW?
Allison decides she does not care because “All is right with the world.” (Perhaps she does not realize we are only 20 minutes into the show. Silly Allison.)
Old West dream: CW visits a medium, a real crystal-ball-reading medium!, who says his wife Maura has seen it all and wants to know why he hurt those girls. He says it hurts to be without her and it’s the only thing that makes the pain go away. When the medium says Maura has gone, he grabs her wrist and yells at her to bring her back.
Medium: Charles you’re hurting me!
CW: I’m sorry mother.
Ack! CW’s mother is a medium! Well, that certainly accounts for a few things.

Catherine: So his mother has the gift. He probably watched her talk to ghosts his whole life. I wonder if that’s when he figured out the dead can communicate with the living.
She and Allison talk about how the gift runs in families and spans generations. When Allison asks how to find out if the young Walker has the old Walker in his head, Catherine suggests she ask him. Well duh.
Before Allison enters his computer repair store, she sees him take a swig from a bottle in a brown paper wrapper. Hm. Scanlon mentioned back at the police station he thought the guy was jonzing for a drink.
Allison goes in to apologize but ends up asking JW if hers is the voice he is hearing right now. Subtle.
He says he is on a medication schedule as the clock next to him counts down to zero and the alarm goes off. He excuses himself to the bathroom, taking the bottle of alcohol with him. Curious. When he comes back, he notices Allison looking at the pictures of him with Amanda and says the girl is obsessed with him but, really, he is NOT interested in her. Allison believes him, JW, but is more worried about CW.
Allison: You hear him, don’t you? In your head, telling you to hurt her…You are fighting it with every inch of your being. You are fighting with the alcohol you just drank in the bathroom. What do you do? Do you time each dose? Just enough to keep the voice of the devil away but not enough to make it impossible to live? To work.
She leaves her card, saying, “This is for you, not him. He already knows me.”

Old West dream: CW is in jail, where he gets a visit from his mother. (Hey, it’s Christina Pickles. I thought she looked familiar over the crystal ball.) He tells his mother he isn’t afraid to die because he will get to be with his beloved Maura, but she tells him he isn’t going to same place she is now that he has killed all those girls. Though he isn’t supposed to hang for another three days, the lynch mob breaks in and hauls him away, kicking and screaming.
CW: I. Will. Not. Go.
And he didn’t, did he?
***
JW seeks out Allison and tells her he first heard the voice when he was 15. He thought he was mentally ill but soon discovered marijuana made the voice go away. Alcohol worked even better. He takes a small amount throughout the day to keep the voice at bay and thinks he has the problem under control.
As Allison chats with Joe in bed, she hears the TV and finds Ariel watching the late news because she missed the earlier one she was supposed to watch for school. She is crying. A girl just 4 years older than her was killed in the park tonight. As Allison looks at the screen, she sees JW being escorted to a police cruiser, covered in blood.
***
JW tells his story at the police station. Amanda’s parents found out about the car accident. She was very upset and wanted to talk so he ended up being out longer than he expected. His self-medicating drinking schedule, you know. They picked up some whiskey, parked at the high school, and played a drinking game. He drank a prodigious amount of alcohol. The next thing he remembers is waking up and seeing the blood.
They don’t have enough evidence to charge him yet but they can hold him for 72 hours. He panics because he can’t go without a drink for three days! Allison looks worried as she and Devalos leave JW with his lawyer.
***
Allison dreams of JW and Amanda in the care. CW is talking to Amanda, not Jack!
How can this be? How can she hear him? He cannot have been working on him AND her.
CW: You are easily the most suggestible person I have ever encountered.
Well that explains that. Oh great, now that she has done his bidding, CW is dumping her. By telling her to stab herself in the stomach? And she does! That’s crazy!
***
Devalos tells JW Amanda’s wounds were self-inflicted. JW tells Allison he might actually make a habit of this not drinking thing but later he calls as Allison fits Marie for a costume. (How cute she is up on the stool in her colorful little outfit!) He tells Allison he has the urge to go out and be around young girls so she rushes down to his computer store to talk him down.
I am guessing it was CW on the phone, not JW…and I’m right! He closes the door, trapping her in the store with him and thanks her for having JW locked up for three days so he had no choice but to get sober. CW had been trying to pierce JW’s self-imposed alcohol haze for ages. He is quite happy in his new JW suit.
He announces he shall ravage Allison and slaps her. Quite hard! Much grappling ensues. She knees him in the balls. He knocks her down and ends up on top of her, choking her.
Allison: If all you wanted to do was kill me, why did he send me all of those dreams?
He looks confused.
Allison: You didn’t, did you? She did. To stop you. … She’s here. She never stopped watching you. … If you kill me, Jack is going to spend the rest of his life in prison. And do you honestly think she loves him any less than the child she died for?
As he tried to strangle Allison, the lights explode, the computers show scenes from the past, and he collapses and rolls off of her and wakes up as Jack.

Catherine: What are ghosts really? They are energy. The energy we leave behind. And energy is power. Who knows what would happen when a spirit as powerful as Charles Walker’s finally decides to cross over? Or what would happen if the other side just decided to take him?
Allison: I’d like to believe that’s what she saw, that he is finally gone for good.
Catherine: I guess we’re just going to have to wait and see.
