With their usual nurturing attitude, NBC execs had decided that Medium didn’t need a full season and hadn’t ordered a full season of episodes. Luckily, they realized (for the 5th year in a row…) that Medium was a show with a big fan base and they were counting on a complete turkey of a show that didn’t pan out. (Bye, bye, My Own Worst Enemy.)
TV Guide thinks Medium will be replacing My Own Worst Enemy at the 10 pm EST Monday night slot in January. Guess I’d better get back to being a night owl!
By the way, have you seen My Own Worst Enemy? I don’t think I even caught a commercial about it and now it is already headed to the chopping block. Where have I been?

Yeah, My Own Worst Enemy was (bad pun) its own worst enemy … I love Christian Slater because he’s my Interview w/ a Vamp, but I couldn’t sit through an ep. Heroes is getting like that, actually. The Mars show is better, but Journeyman was better than that. JMO

Katelyn, I’m confused. Since NBC originally ordered 13 episodes, and they ordered an additional 3 episodes just a couple of weeks ago, and now they’ve ordered 6 more, doesn’t that make 22 episodes? Or is my second grade math that bad? Why does everyone keep saying that it’s only 19 episodes? Are they forgetting about the 3-episode order, or is that 3 eps included in this 6 episode order?
Oh, and I don’t know how you’ve missed the promotion for Enemy. NBC has been pushing the heck out of it ever since the Olympics. Here in LA, it’s everywhere (on buses, billboards, bus stops, benches). I only wish that NBC would put that much into promoting Medium. Imagine what this hardy little show could do if it actually got some support from the network, instead if being treated like a utility player, getting yanked on and off the schedule, and all over it.

Dawn,
I guess I haven’t been watching NBC at all recently so I missed the promotion attempts. There hasn’t been any local promotion. We must not be the right demographic. I’m not sure whether the 19 episode release info came direct from NBC or if TV Guide put the number together from several releases. It is quite possible that we can’t add.

Must be that Hollywood math, Katelyn. Or the kind they only teach big business execs. You know, if you have ordered 13 episodes of a TV show, and you order 9 more, but you want to save money, you just tell everyone you only ordered 6. Go figure.

Love that math equation, Dawn! Kately, you must’ve been under a rock because NBC did a lot of promotion and I think TV Guide even featured it on the cover, maybe? It had a lot of promo because of Christian Slater being the star. Like you, I can’t think of anything I’ve been watching on NBC this year since Medium is not yet on the schedule. I do love Chuck, but it’s on the same time as Dancing With the Stars. Guess I should’ve taped it on my other TV, but just didn’t. Last year they replayed Chuck on other nights or on their other channels, but I haven’t seen it that much this year.
Personally, I think L & O SVU jumped the shark and L & O I think has outlived its premise, for me anyway, and I used to be a dedicated L & O SVU viewer. when Jerry Orbach left L & O, that did it for me. I still watch L & O CI, but now that Chris Noth is gone, I’m not sure I will like Jeff Goldblum so much and the storylines with Goren have taken a very dark turn, not that the subject matter isn’t dark already, but sometimes I just don’t want to know all the dirt on their personal lives – a little goes a long way. I think on CBS Without a Trace has taken a wrong turn by focusing so much on Anthony LaPaglia’s off the job life – what attracted me were the stories, not the characters personal problems. Oh, how I miss my Medium, which is a whole different ball game!
We can only hope that NBC will promote the heck out of Medium like they’ve never done before.
