Melissa McCarthy has been taking the stage for The Groundlings, an improv show currently at the Met Theatre in Hollywood. The talent that have come through the improv show over the last 33 years has been amazing – from Will Ferrell, Lisa Kudro, Jon Lovitz and more!
Melissa has been an active company member with The Groundlings for more than 10 years now. Melissa actually started her career doing standup comedy, and came to The Groundlings when she moved to LA. Melissa uses it as a continuous place to write and interact with a live audience, and was once quoted as saying it kept her sane while keeping to the tight Gilmore Girls script:
"If I didn’t have Groundlings, I would probably be trying stuff at Gilmore all the time to the point of them wanting to kill me."
Melissa McCarthy appeared in two recent current improv shows, "Love" and "Taste Test." The LA Weekly has this to say of the shows:
"McCarthy is never afraid to make a fool of herself, and her uproarious style, reminiscent of the late Chris Farley, makes it impossible for us to keep a straight face."
I’m not sure which of the current improv shows Melissa takes part in, although I do know she’s a regular on The Actors Showcase, which you can read about here.

[...] We’re also pointed to some “awesomely bad” videos on YouTube that Melissa was a part of. They include series of 70s inspired shorts she, husband Ben Falcone, and friends filmed under the title Hard Streets, as well as videos of Marbles, a character Melissa originated at the Groundlings. [...]
I noticed that Melissa McCarthy’s husband, Ben Falcone, is also listed as a member. I wonder if that is where they first met. I would love to see her do one of her acts. I can see her as being a riot of laughs.
