Melissa McCarthy gave an interview recently about her new show, "Samantha Who?", as well as some comparisons to working on Gilmore Girls.
Melissa describes her character on Samantha Who? as "sweet and bubbly", but one much more interesting because she lied about being Sam’s friend in the pilot. This crazy side appealed to her:
"Dena is just a little ‘off,’ which is always more interesting than someone who is just straight up."
Melissa McCarthy had to memorize huge bits of dialogue for Gilmore Girls, but she says it was nothing compared to Lauren Graham:
"It was never not in my mind that I couldn’t really complain about what I had to do when Lauren (Graham) had, like, 700 pages a week," McCarthy recalls. "She has close to a photographic memory, and I don’t know if they ever realized that, if she hadn’t had that memory, (the show) would have been literally impossible."
Melissa and her husband Ben Falcone are raising their daughter, Vivian, without a nanny. Although both are actors, they are able to be around for her 95% of the time.
"And to me, that means everything"
Remember, Samantha Who? returns to television (finally!) on February 4th.

Love Melissa McCarthy. One of my favorite Sookie lines – “I’m mad and sad. I’m smad.” Lauren Graham is the best. Not only did she have to memorize all those lines but it also shows she’s an intelligent and amazing actress. She portrayed Lorelei so well that when you watch her in other roles, it’s hard not to see her still as Lorelei. According to Christina Applegate, there are three new episodes of Samantha Who left and will most likely be shown some time in February. She mentioned it at the SAG Awards.
it returns for reruns?
actually, samantha who is not on. i have tivo and it shows what will be on two weeks in advance. in the next two weeks there is no samantha who on tv.!!!!!1

ooh, I can’t wait for Samatha Who? to show up in swedish television(:
it’s so nice to read about someone in hollywood who’s raising their daughter full time!
i loved what she said about lauren graham! that woman needs an award for all of her amazing work. over the last few days i’ve been feeling nostalgic and have been watching some gg (end of season 1 and the start of season 2) and am still amazed by lauren’s work in that show. how she manages to be hilarious and vulnerable and flirtatious and motherly and immature and mature and wise and a billion more adjectives all in one show is impressive.
i just hope the writer’s strike ends soon so that the folks at nbc can begin to write the show that she’s going to star in!!!
an so psyched for ‘birds of america’. does anyone know if the movie (which has been showing at sundance) got a production company (not sure what the correct term is) to buy it/show it? i really wanna see it. it will be interesting to see graham play someone who is so totally different than lorelai.
MM is someone you would want for a friend. She was certainly generous in her compliments to Lauren Graham (rightfully so, but generous nonetheless). This is also the first time I heard what they had named their daughter.
I know, goodness, Lauren was amazing, not only she had to memorize that much dialogue, she also had to get them out in a super-speed. Lauren rules.
i miss sookie!!! <3
