Meredith and Derek: Happily Ever After?

The August 25-31st issue of TV Guide is chock-full of everything you want to know, my fellow Grey’s Anatomy addicts, and will be worth picking up during your next outing. They’ve got a juicy exclusive on our favorite show and this time it’s all about MerDer.

Quoted within the article are none other than Shonda Rhimes, Patrick Dempsey and Ellen Pompeo.

So what’s to come for our favorite couple?

Shonda says, “They’re going to live the moments that come after happily-ever-after. They could end up being a couple who lives together and works together, and that’s not always so easy.”

Easy would be no fun on a television drama, certainly, though I’m sure most MerDer fans wouldn’t oppose a little bit of easy once in a while, given all of the back and forth we’ve endured over the years.

Ellen Pompeo stated that the couple is “going to do it their way, which is one step forward, two steps back. Meredith is still showing huge signs of fear and commitment phobia.”

Uh oh.

Piping in, Patrick Dempsey said that, “the first three episodes start the dynamic of where we are all going. Meredith is trusting him and moving forward cautiously, and Derek is waiting there, saying, ‘I’m here to support you.’”

Well, that sounds a bit more positive. It’s good that they’re staying true to the character of Meredith. After all of her issues it would be unbelievable that’d she’d suddenly up and be “cured” of her commitment phobia. Still, there’s gotta be some sunshine on the horizon. A wedding perhaps?

“Wouldn’t a wedding be too predictable? And would Meredith even wear a dress?” asks Ellen Pompeo.

Hmm. I’ll take that to mean I shouldn’t expect my MerDer wedding invitation in the mail any time soon. Bummer.

And while it’s good to know what’s coming up with regards to MerDer, what’s going on with everyone else?

Love stories. Lots of ‘em from the sound of it.

“Izzie’s got a love story – and it’s a big one.”

“George and Lexie’s love story is going to take an incredibly unexpected turn.”

(Maybe it’s George that’s pregnant…)

“Callie and Erica have a love story of their own.” Which involves Mark in some mysterious way.

And Cristina’s love life is going to get more interesting what with the addition of a certain new character we’ve been talking about.
