Mischa Barton Switches Agents

Mischa Barton has made a career change, of sorts. Mischa has left her longtime agency, Creative Artists Agency (CAA), and has moved to Paradigm Talent Agency, out of New York.

There is speculation about whether Mischa left the agency voluntarily, or if she was dropped. I think it’s possible Mischa is looking for an agent who will find her the right kind of roles, in the right kind of movies, to move her career forward. Paradigm’s website notes:

"Paradigm’s select yet diverse client list allows it to effectively compete with other large agencies while guaranteeing personalized attention to every client."

I think that personalized attention is what is going to make a difference. I look forward to seeing what kinds of projects Mischa now chooses!

Mischa’s people can spin it anyway they want, but moving from CAA to Paradigm is like getting a demotion. Ask anyone in Hollywood.

Sam,that certainly used to be true—but times are a’changin’—-

caa agents remuneration has been declining steeply in recent years (off 20% last year and expected to be off another lump this year).
Me thinks they have the wrong business model in a challanging and contracting marketplace.
It is an open secret that CAA is not a happy place to work at right now.

As for MB, my guess is, she left.

they dont have an actor/actress clientele up on their site — but I can tell you right now that their music client roster is made up of some of the most talented and eclectic musicians out there. Unsurprisingly, I’m sure Mischa is a big fan of many of the bands Paradigm represents. I’m sure she’ll do just fine here. :)

@assid: as much as things change, they stay the same. I work in talent management and I am telling you with 100% certainty we would only dare think of moving a client from CAA to Paradigm (especially Pradigm’s NY office, what’s up with that?) if they were on the verge of being dumped.

The CAA logo on the resume is worth more than anything else. They don’t have to pitch her for a single thing but having CAA attached to the name opens far more doors than Paradigm ever will (especially considering the disatrous last couple of years Paradigm has experienced. If you think CAA’s books look terrible, Paradigm nearly folded when they joined with W&A. Also, no one is making the money they used to the past year because of the strikes and potential strikes)

Endeavor, ICM, WMA and UTA have similar cachet and would be the only options for moving laterally in the business.
