Mischa Barton talks Herbal Essence, Bhopal: A Prayer for Rain and leaving The O.C.

This video interview of Mischa Barton is actually from around February when Mischa was promoting Herbal Essence in Spain.

But this is the first time I have seen this "Europa Press" video, which not only talks about Herbal Essence, but her Bhopal: A Prayer for Rain movie, her experience on The O.C. and who she still has contact with from the show.

This video was taken way before Mischa accepted the role in the new CW fall drama The Beautiful Life. She talks briefly about Bhopal: A Prayer for Rain, the movie that she had just finished filming with Martin Sheen in India about that time.

About The O.C., she says she was 16 when she started the show, so it was quite a growing experience for her. She says it wasn’t her choice to leave the show, though she was given two choices on how the character would leave. Mischa said she thought Marissa dying was a better ending for her character. I don’t think The O.C. fans will see it that way, but ….

Basically, Mischa doesn’t see those on The O.C. cast much at all. It sounds like she might have seen Adam Brody more than anyone else since the show ended.

I must say, I’m quite disappointed to hear her saying things like the environment of the OC set being “unhealthy” etc. There is something very unsettling about her here when she is talking about The OC and the cast. I mean obviously she acknowledges the opportunity the show gave her, but in another sense its like she is totally bagging it all together.
I’m really desperate to know now, the alternate option that Marissa had other than dying…I never knew that Mischa had part of that choice.

Emma, I agree with you. I wish she didn’t look down so much on her time on The O.C. She has a big fan base from The O.C., so she really should try harder to embrace it.

Absolutely. I am one of those fans.
Having an attitude as such is not going to help her. I dunno – she just seems arrogant here, and very dismissive of the show that gave her a career in the first place.

Usually actors are a bit more diplomatic about the shows they have been on which is why her comments about The OC surprise me. She also seems to contradict herself about the killing of her character. Also in other interviews after her character was killed she said she was surprised with what they did (as well as the producers saying none of the cast was told until the day the scene was filmed).

I doubt she had any input -actor’s are rarely given an option on how their character’s departures are handled so I doubt she was given a choice. Maybe Mischa now thinks that is the better option. She also had talked in the past about leaving the show to do movies even though she was under contract. But history can always be revised.

By the way, is it just me or does she seem a bit wasted?
