Mischa Barton will miss the premiere of her new indie movie Homecoming tonight due to illness, according to People magazine.
On Wednesday, Barton made a medical call to the Los Angeles police and was taken to an undisclosed location. According to several sources, she is dealing with pain caused by her recent oral surgery.
“We assisted her with a medical issue and removed her from her home,” LAPD Officer April Harding confirmed to People.
Harding added that no paramedics were involved and no arrests were made, but confidentiality laws prevent her from revealing details about Barton’s condition.
The star’s spokesperson Craig Schneider said police were only needed to protect the star from the media as she was transported to her doctor, People reported. Those of us who follow Mischa Barton know that Mischa is a paparazzi favorite.
“Police were involved due to Ms. Barton’s celebrity status, to safely transfer her to medical treatment as per doctor’s orders,” Schneider told People, adding that Barton is now “okay and resting.”
One of Homecoming’s producers, Austin Stark, told People he was aware she had medical problems and wasn’t able to travel. He said he was disappointed Barton will miss the film’s premiere “because she did a great job” in her role.
Homecoming, which will open in limited theaters on Friday, also stars 90210’s Jessica Stroup and Matt Long. Barton plays the obsessed ex-girlfriend who isn’t happy when her ex brings a new girlfriend with him during a break from college.
