Mitch Pileggi Returns to Grey's Anatomy

sipaphotostwo102398-CA-X-FILES-I-WAX-Files fans rejoice! Mitch Pileggi will be returning to Grey’s Anatomy for the two-hour season 6 premiere.

You may recall he dropped by to play hospital board chairman, Larry Jennings, back in season 3. Although his visit to Seattle Grace was less official and more medical in nature. He played a patient whose trip to the Amazon jungle had left a flesh-eating fish in his um … well, anyway.

This next time around, the hospital bigshot will not be lying on a hospital bed. Though the details are non-too-specific, one can guess that his encore has something to do with Izzie and George.

Care to guess what he may be doing back? Drop your thoughts in the comments!

Grey’s Anatomy returns to ABC on Thursday, September 24 at 9pm EST.

I think Mitch might be taking over as chief temporarily because ‘the board’ does not think the chief is doing as good a job as he should be. And the chief thinks its his fault that George dies OR recovers but joins the army.

My guess on what he’s doing is quite simple. It doesn’t have much to do with Izzie and George, and more with yelling at the chief for the hospitals ranking and finding solutions to get back to the top.

On another note, what I find somewhat funny is how the roles are reversed now between Pickens and Pileggi; in X-Files Pileggi played the direct superior of the main characters, and tried to help them within the system whenever he could. Now Pickens has that role. Pickens on the other hand played the one even higher in the hierarchy, a somewhat shady, heartless character, that doesn’t have a problem spitting in other people’s cereals because he can or because it’s in his best interest – now that role falls to Pileggi. I wonder if the two actors laugh about that twist
