It’s unfortunate that Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie didn’t win awards at last night’s Critics’ Choice Awards, but I’m not too disappointed. At least they were nominated which is a nod to their work for sure, and they were up against some excellent competition. I’ve been irked sometimes by particular actors or actresses winning something if it’s someone I don’t care for, but the nominees is all the categories were very deserving – if Brad and Angelina have to lose out on an award, at least it’s to someone worthy!
(Also, I have to say that although some people have expressed shock at Slumdog Millionaire having so much success at the awards, the movie is truly excellent. I was very impressed when I saw it and it is so worth your while to watch it if you get the chance!)

Still, win or lose, it’s hard to feel too badly for either Brad or Angelina. After all, they both get to go home with each other and they’ll be too busy with their kids to have time to be disappointed! And let’s not forget that the Golden Globe Awards air on Sunday night. I really can’t see them missing that event, so we’ll get to see Brad and Angelina on the red carpet in just a short time.

Speaking of the red carpet, check out the pandemonium that is caused when Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie arrive somewhere. I laughed at the off-camera girl screaming Angie’s name!
Eventually there will probably be some entertainment show coverage available, at which point I’ll post those as well.
Meanwhile, for those of you who, like me, enjoy knowing what everyone is wearing, the details of Angelina Jolie’s red carpet style are over here!

Nic – Brad and Angelina often wear a simple band such as that one, but they wear them on the right hand instead of the left. Many people believe they wear them symbolically even though they aren’t technically married.

Is that a wedding ring on Brad’s finger?
Lol
Looks like one!
Well i guess we will never know until Brad or Jolie says so..haaaaa
luceabb, I understand what you are saying. I have some one who is close to me who makes remarks about rich people, that they have nothing to complain about etc etc. I try to explain that they have different problems then us. It has been a long time since we have seen this family just out and about together. They have had to give up just being every day people. The Jolie-Pitts for some reason are not as lucky as Jen and Ben A, Gwen S, and many others who seem to be able to get out on a daily basis. Even Katie Holmes at least is able to get around NYC a little bit with Surie. A couple of years ago Brad and Angie tried doing that and I guess it became a three ring circus and frightened the kids. I miss seeing how the children have grown, but if this is the way it has to be to have these children have some peace so be it.
Hi Sherry, The network are not the ones getting the ratings but the shows. I hear Sarah’s point and I am more inclined to agree. Here in the States, it is more about the ratings for the shows and as much as I like seeing Brad and Angie, lets see what happens if they sit out an award show…a good example is the people choice award. No show and guess what, no one is taking about it. I have been watching the CCA long before Brad and Angie became an item and I can tell you, people do not talk about it pass 2 days after the event.
Sherry,
I don’t believe you are a bad fan at all. Sorry if that is the impression I gave you. What I am saying is that there is too much attention paid to Angie and Brad’s personal life; and not enough to their work. Neither Brad or Angie won any awards yet the camera and all the focus is on them not for the work but if he has his hand up her dress??? That Us weekly article is demeaning and I cannot believe fans of the Jolie-Pitts are giddy with glee over “PDA” So from now on every red carpet PDA and perception of undying love must be the order of the day. Angie and Brad better stick to the script.
When you think about it Angie had a joyful year but you and other fans cant tell me it wasn’t a tough one for her. This woman spent the year being attacked not only by the “legitimate media” but by tabloids blogger and the ex. At awards shows and late night TV jokes are made in reference to adoption and the adopted children, Jokes and comments tinged with envy and bitterness beneath the surface.
I have noticed many changes in Angelina over the last few years. She is cutting herself off from the normal everyday things she used to do publicly. Don’t Get Me Wrong!! I know she still does them just in a different way, more under cover. BUT, that is what I find so sad, Angie was unusual in the way she interacted with her fans and the public in general. Very few public figures have that connection with people, they feed off it, Angie has that. We saw her in NY with Mad or friends, always inquisitive about the people around her. In her life now does she get the chance to have those spontaneous feedback from normal everyday people, the once she get her inspiration and focus from
under moderation: slumdog, award shows … and i realized my post is a bit dyslexic.
Slumdog’s a great movie. I took my uncle to see it last month, and he had not known anything about it, but he was flabbergasted afterwards. He couldn’t stop raving about it. Now, I haven’t seen Changeling or Benjamin Button because I feel they are heavy dramas, and I tend to wait with heavy dramas. It’s hard to explain it, but I have to prepare myself for the emotional intensity of such films. But I’m sure they are great films, and I will eventually see them. However, I can’t say I am surprised that Slumdog’s winning awards. Even though they are different, Slumdog’s story is as original as Benjamin Button … The way Slumdog’s story unfolds is unique and very creative in my opinion—just out of the box.
Anyway, I think some of us feel a bit biased because it is the actors and their films that we adore that are up for awards. However, whether Hollywood politics plays a role in it or not, sometimes, other actors and films are just a tad better or just as good as Brad’s and Angie’s acting and their films. It’s a plus if they receive awards as an affirmation of their work and profession, but I think the greatest affirmation they can ever receive is the respect the respect of their peers. They have enviable success, working with other respectable actors and directors, and they’re churning out works that are garnering critical acclaim.
Personally, I feel award shows are a bit overrated. Someone else pointed out that a lot of great actors and films don’t even get nominated, and yet, they deserve to be up there with the others. So, for Brad and Angie to be nominated is a big honor.
luceabb – Yes, I have seen Changeling. I didn’t do a full post about it because by the time I was able to see it, it had been out for a very long time, though I did mention it in comments. I have not seen Benjamin Button yet but I have hopes to go see it tomorrow. Not having seen them opening weekend doesn’t make me less of a fan – the area in which I live is a) very suburban and b) very French. I don’t often get a chance to go downtown into the city to see new movies.
Did Changeling stay with me? Yes it certainly did. As I said in my comment about it recently, not only did it make me cry it also made me incredibly angry to see how Christine was treated by both the cops and the mental institution.
BB sounds like exactly the kind of movie that will stay with me as well and I am very eager to see it after all these weeks.
You asked if the other movies stayed with me as well. I haven’t seen most of the others, I’ve only seen Slumdog Millionaire. And yes, it did. It’s not a 90-minute Hollywood flash in the pan, it has a deep story, a lot of tragedy, some fine acting – and since I have an interest in such countries as India, Pakistan, and other Eastern countries, that held an appeal to me too.
Please correct me if I’m wrong but I get an impression that you’re implying that I am not a “good fan” because I also like other movies besides just theirs. I absolutely wanted Brad, Angelina, and their movies to sweep the wins. I would have been ecstatic if BB had won. But just because I’m satisfied with who DID win doesn’t change anything.
I’ve seen this before, and I’ve gotten several emails implying it this time, but in my mind you don’t have to be against everyone and everything else in Hollywood to be a Brad and Angie fan. I can like them, like their movies, and still like others as well. I refuse to apologize that, while I am disappointed Brad and Angie didn’t win, I am still pleased that S.M. did well.
It doesn’t always have to be either/or or us against them. We can be disappointed and supportive of others at the same time.
Sorry to burst everyones bubble, but award shows are political. And I have seen movies the critics have given a terrible rating and they have been excellence movies that I have enjoyed. One man’s trash is another man’s treasure. So keep on nominating the JP’s they are exceptional actors.
angela, totally agree with that point.
If Angie told Pinto that she loved her acceptance speech, that means she was attentive and listening carefully the whole time which i believe is the same case with Anne’s acceptance speech.
Sherry,
I totally disagree with you. By-the-way, have you seen BB or Changeling yet??
Look at the comments here and at other blogs, comments made by “fans” all they are interested in is Brad and Angie’s family. It is awards season and all you and everybody is talking about is PDA’s and seeing their family.
Every blogger has an excuse as to why other movies and performances were better. Here is a question for you, how did you feel after seeing these other movies? did these movies stay with you? was there any emotional reaction to the premise of these movies, or were they hour and a half movies that required no thought after they were over? Well, I can proudly state that as a fan of both A&B I took the time to see both movies and I must say both stayed with me, but BB had the most effect, It allowed me to think of the people in my life that I love and have loss, and for that I am grateful, I AM FOR MOVIES LIKE BB. I hope the filmmakers of this movie does not get discouraged. This movie took dedication and perseverance, commitment of over 10yrs. What is the incentive for actors and director to commit to projects like BB when they look around and see movies like Slumdog and M&M doing better and getting more recognition?
Brad and Angie got noms, they were given pats on the head for their work. but the impression I get is that Hollywood will never give them the rewards they deserve. But they all want them at their awards shows and prominent on the blogs and in their trash mags because they sell. they sell because of fans like you and others who believe that them being nom is enough. They look pretty they are in love, they have the perfect family, so what more do they want?? I hope Angie does what she says and move farther away from Hollywood. So far they are doing a good job of removing themselves and their children from it. You watch, in the coming months after Angie finishes Salt fans and Hollywood will be singing a different tune. You have heard the saying you don’t know what you have until it’s gone?? You can go ahead and put me in mod now I don’t expect this comment to be posted because I find that if comment’s don’t follow the pack they are regarded as not true fans. I HAVE BEEN A FAN OF ANGIE’S SINCE HER EVRY FIRST MOVIE AND I HAVE SEEN THE CHANGES IN HER. I AM NOT ONE OF THOSE FANS PINING FOR THE “GOOD OLD DAYS” but I have seen how much Angie’s life, work and family is being devalued. One thing for sure if and I say If god forbid A&B should ever separate the media will have many years of PDA loved up pictures to build their stories around, don’t you think??
What a great photos of these two! They seem to be soooo in love with each other. It´s easy to understand why these two can´t keep their hands off of each other. Brad looks at least ten years younger in these photos and Angie looks like a woman very much in love. I truly believe that Knox will look exactly like his dad and Viv will be a beauty like her mum when they grow up. Miss seeing photos of the JP kids. Especially it would be nice to see how much Shi and the twins have grown during these months.
Slumdog Millionaire star Freida Pinto says she got star-struck meeting Angelina Jolie at Thursday’s 14th Annual Critics Choice Awards.
“They were sitting right next to my table!” she tells Usmagazine.com.
“Angelina Jolie came walking towards me, and I didn’t know she was coming over to me, so I stuffed my face with some food, and she was like, ‘I loved your acceptance speech!’
“I was like, ‘Mmmm,’” adds Pinto, whose movie won best picture. “I went up to her during the break and Brad as well. They are lovely people.”
She says she “was more enamored by Angelina. I was talking to her, and then I would look over and … ‘Oh, it’s Brad Pitt!’”
She tells Us she was shocked that they told her that they’re big fans of hers.
“I said, ‘What?’ You are my big fans?’”Pinto says. “I couldn’t believe it! They’re so nice.”
Adds the actress, “It’s really special when someone like Angelina Jolie comes up to you and says ‘great job!’”
Talent is boring without charisma.
Angelina has loads of TALENT & CHARISMA plus LOOKS (w/ SEX APPEAL) and a HEART OF GOLD, very rare combination!!!
Sherry, Loren, LIgaya, Neela…you all said it for me. :) Somehow or other I knew there were going to be people who will spin something negative about them again this time around. I saw the video, and like Rachelle I didn’t think she looked upset either. Oh well, to each his/her own.
^^^ I meant to say that I’ve seen it before in past awards shows with other nominated actors who didn’t win.
My comment’s under moderation, but I don’t think Angie look annoyed. She had a mild smile and a disappointed countenance. I have read other blogs that claim the annoyed look was aimed at Anne. But I don’t think that was the case. I think it’s more of a case that maybe she wasn’t happy she didn’t win the award, but as I pointed out in my other post, Kate Beckinsale had a look on her, too. It’s natural. I had that look when I didn’t get best in print at a graphic design show. It’s very annoying that the media/gossip blogs are doing this Angie vs. Anne thing. Also, Angie’s not the first nominated actor to have had such an expression because he/she didn’t win. I’ve seen it before in past awards shows. It’s Angie so it’s blown out of proportion again.

(BTW, I posted the Oscar nominations announcement date and the rest of the awards schedule in the previous Critics Choice thread.)
Diane – I don’t really think there’s much to comment about because like Rachelle said, people will see what they want if they’re looking for something nasty to say, but I did address it in a new post here on the site.
