Michael Ausiello directly answered a few questions about the news of T.R. Knight’s departure. People want to know why he wants to leave the show, and the simple truth – or at least the truth – is that he’s not getting enough screen time and he’s tired of it. And that sounds pretty logical to me. More new people means less time for everyone else and if Shonda & Co. aren’t willing to negotiate more screen time for George I can’t see any other alternative.
Any chance he won’t leave the show?
Doesn’t look like it. The only way Knight will not leave the show is if ABC doesn’t let him out of his contract, but that appears to be unlikely. The network seems ready to bid him farewell and an agreement will likely happen very soon. According to Ausiello we’ll likely see the last of George around mid-season.
I really like George and seeing more of the Grey’s cast walk out of Seattle Grace never to return makes me worry for the future of the show in general. Soon we’ll be left with Grey’s Anatomy: The Next Generation and that’s not what we signed up for.
But I do wish T.R. Knight the very best of luck in future roles. I’ll sure be watching.

I think i’m actually going to cry… everyone else who has left has been a least in some respects a secondary character… but the show is supposed to be about Mer, George, Iz and Christina… they are the original interns for petes sake!

Im telling you if T.R Knight leaves the show there wont be a Greys Anatomy. The show will fall without George,no matter how many new people come. George was one of the original characters and he deserves to get more storylines the ones he has now sucks, he pretty much has 5 minutes on screen, his character is one of the best on the show and if he leaves i garuntee people wont watch the show!

Angela, I totally agree with you! I do like Izzie and Alex, but this Denny thing is ridiculous and if T.R. leaves, I’ll probably clear my Tivo of Grey’s. I can’t stand Mer/Der!
