NBC Announces Premiere Date For "Parenthood"

Mark your calendars! Variety reports that NBC has announced, Parenthood, starring Lauren Graham (Lorelai on Gilmore Girls) will premiere Monday, March 1 at 9 p.m., to air after Chuck. Unfortunately, as Variety points out, it will go up against the hugely popular Dancing With The Stars on ABC and CBS’s Two and A Half Men and The Big Bang Theory. So, if you don’t have a TiVo or DVR, it’s time to get one!

In case you haven’t been following our updates on Parenthood, the show is an update on the 1989 film of the same name, which follows the lives of the Braveman family. Originally the show was supposed to premiere in September, but was pushed back when Maura Tierney left the show to get cancer treatment. Lauren ended up replacing her and will be playing Sarah Braveman, a single mother of two who moves back in with her parents to give herself and her children, Amber and Drew, a “fresh start.” The cast includes Peter Krause, Dax Shephard, Craig T. Nelson and Bonnie Bedelia. Here, once again, is one of NBC’s promos for the show, featuring Lauren:

This should be interesting. I loved that movie when I was young. Is her character in this show supposed to be Dianne Wiest’s character in the 1989 movie? Dianne Wiest’s character in the ‘89 film was a single mom with two kids, a daughter and a son.

I saw an interview with Maura Tierney about the character she was going to play before Maura was diagnosed with breast cancer, and being a huge fan of ER but not really knowing Maura from anything else, I was actually excited to check Maura out on this new show Parenthood when it started airing. It looked really good based on that promotional interview. Now that Lauren Graham has replaced her, I’m kinda torn between feeling awful for Maura and excited for Lauren. Seriously, ER and Gilmore Girls are two shows which will ALWAYS be near the top of my “Favorite TV shows ever” list lol and both actresses are fantastic from what I can tell. I’m also excited to see Peter Krause in this since I was a huge fan of him in Six Feet Under. ;) I’ve never seen the 1989 movie so I won’t have anything to compare it to, but since I don’t watch Dancing With The Stars, Two and A Half Men, nor The Big Bang Theory I’ll definitely be checking this show out. :D

Sara, I believe her character is based on Dianne Wiest’s character. Don’t quote me on that, but I think so ;)

That was a great movie, I’m curious to see what they do with it on TV!
