NBC cancels My Own Worst Enemy, Lipstick Jungle

I’m so ticked off right now I can barely write.

This was after I read Kristin on E!’s column about how NBC is canceling new series My Own Worst Enemy with Christian Slater and sophomore series Lipstick Jungle — or at least not ordering new episodes. I hope that they will at least tie up loose ends.

I have watched all four episodes of NBC’s new series My Own Worst Enemy and thought it was a keeper. I understand it’s not everyone’ cup of tea as you really do have to follow the plot to understand what’s going on, but that’s what made it unique.

And I’m sure loyal fans of sophomore series Lipstick Jungle feel the same, if not being even more upset.

I liked My Own Worst Enemy because it was different — Henry and Edward are total polar opposites but end up being a “fish out of water” in each other’s lives. While it was a drama, the series also had quite a bit of comedy thrown in — like Edward teaching Henry’s wife Angie (the amazing Madchen Amick) the Hummingbird position after Henry drove “Edward’s’ car. In the next episode (which I hope they air), Henry wonders if his own wife is a spy. I was looking forward to that, dammit!

I realize ratings for these shows haven’t been stellar this season, but there’s been a lot going on. Hello! We just finished a presidential election! And not everyone has gotten into their groove yet watching these new shows (especially when many of the returning shows are so good people don’t want to change the channel to give a new show a chance).

And speaking of giving a new series chances, how many times have you got hooked on a show only to have the rug pulled out from under you? It’s happened to me at least 10 times. Reading some of the comments on Kristin’s column, one reader says that’s why she doesn’t like to get hooked on new shows — why bother, when they cancel them anyway.

I’m not downing Knight Rider, but NBC gave that show a full season order. They can’t give a show with a movie star like Christian Slater a chance?

Excuse me why I go throw some stuff around!

Cheril – I’m ticked, too! About both shows! We saw it coming for Lipstick Jungle, though, when they moved it to the kiss-of-death Friday night. Where all good shows go to die.

I forgot that they moved it. And they wonder why it didn’t succeed?

I always think of “Love Monkey” when I think of shows canceled way too early…

I too am annoyed about the cancellation of My Own Worst Enemy. I thought the show had a lot of potential and was glad to see Christian Slater playing a role that had some depth.
