With a truly outstanding cast, NBC’s Southland is really looking to become a show to watch when it debuts on April 9 at 10/9 p.m. CST, taking ER’s beloved spot.

John Wells, the executive producer who brought ER’s gritty look at hospital ER’s to life will be taking a look behind the badge this time — as the audience gets a raw and authentic look at a police unit in Los Angeles on the job as well as off the clock as they deal with the pressures in their personal lives in this new ensemble drama.

Michael Cudlitz (A River Runs Through It) plays John Cooper, a 20-year veteran Los Angeles cop assigned to train young rookie Ben Sherman (Benjamin McKenzie, The O.C.).

Other cast members include Regina King (Ray, Jerry Maguire) as Detective Lydia Adams, a dedicated daughter who lives with and is the primary caregiver her mother.

Her partner Detective Russell Clark (Tom Everett Scott, Boiler Room) is an unhappily married father of three.

Michael McGrady stars as gang detective Daniel “Sal” Salinger, who oversees fellow gang detectives Nate Moretta (Kevin Alejandro, Drive, Ugly Betty) and Sammy Bryant (Shawn Hatosy, Alpha Dog).

Arija Bareikis (Crossing Jordan) plays as patrol officer Chickie Brown, a single mom who dreams of being the first woman accepted into SWAT.
