When life gives you lemons, why not make it into a lemon-drop martini?
That’s what Sophie Parker (Natalie Brown, How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days) is going to do when everything in her so-called “perfect life” goes to pieces in ABC Family’s new comedy Sophie debuting Monday, March 23.
Sophie thought she had it all — a successful talent agency, a loving boyfriend and a baby on the way. But all at once everything falls apart. Her boyfriend of several years, Rick (Sebastian Spence), leaves her right as the baby is about to be born and moves in with Sophie’s best friend — and top client, Melissa (Amy Lalonde).
As if that wasn’t enough, he decides to open up a competing talent agency and starts taking clients from Sophie’s talent list. TSimilar to om Cruise’s Jerry Maguire movie (except that was a sports agency).
And the one client he choose to leave with Sophie is a doozy — Estelle (Sara Botsford) — an aging, challenging and neurotic actress who hasn’t given up on her 15 minutes of fame. Estelle also is Sophie’s father’s mistress, so she thinks she is family.
Now dealing with being a single mom, rebuilding her business and her life, Sophie leans on her best friend Matt (Jeff Geddis). She can’t count on her manipulative mother Judith (Mimi Kuzyk) who thinks Sophie and Rick are meant to be together and will pull whatever trick she can come up with to get her way.
The 13 half-hour episodes will premiere this Monday (March 23) at 9:30 to 10 p.m. ET/PT following the premiere of Roommates, another ABC Family comedy at 9 p.m. The show also stars Chantelle Chung and Catherine Bérubé.
Sophie and Roommates are part of ABC Family’s first-ever one-hour comedy block, which airs Mondays from 9 to 10 p.m.
Both shows will debut following the season finale of The Secret Life of the American Teenager at 8 p.m. CST
