New Grey's Cast Member Nora Zehetner Interview

admphotos330520-Nora-ZehetnerSo we all know that Shonda Rhimes means to shake things up with season 6. The Seattle Grace/Mercy West merger is a great way to change things around and introduce some fresh new faces to the show.

Fans are mixed in their reactions to these changes. Some are excited by the new and some just want things to go back to how they used to be. Going back is unlikely at this point. Rhimes and Co. seem to be going full speed ahead and the ever-revolving door of our beloved hospital is going to keep on spinning for the foreseeable future. On the plus side, we don’t have to miss Meredith at all. Phew.

One of the new faces we’ll be getting used to is that of Mercy West doctor Reed, played by Nora Zehetner. TV Guide sat down with the actress to pick her brain on the new role. As can be expected, her presence on the show is going to bring about new drama. Hers along with the rest of the “Mercy Westers.”

So, a little about character Reed: “She’s very feisty and a very hardworking doctor. She’s maybe a little overeager, trying really hard.” So … like, Cristina? “Maybe a bit like Cristina, maybe a bit like Karev. In terms of how motivated she is, maybe Cristina. I definitely butt heads with quite a few of the characters.”

So what can we look forward to for the rest of season 6?

The new doctors will not be welcomed. There’s going to be a lot of fighting between the Seattle Gracers and the Mercy Westers to get the best surgeries and claim their territory.

In other words: Drama.

The hospital will be even more chaotic than before.

Another of the new docs on the block will be April, played by Sarah Drew. Zehetner reveals that Reed and April are close friends. The Mercy West doctors will be banning together, regardless of their prior feelings towards each other. The whole feel will be a very “us vs. them.”

And if you’re wondering about romances springing up in spite of all of those fights, there’s nothing specific revealed but this is Grey’s Anatomy so of course there’s going to be some romances going on.

How do you feel about all of these changes? Do you think the fresh faces are a good thing or are you worried that the show will start to feel like a different show entirely?

I do not like how the show is going. We are seeing the very worst of the characters I have grown to really like. I want to see more mature character development happening. I do like how Christina is seeing that what she really wants is cardio surgery, not just surgery. I do not see why you are lowering all of the characters, new and old, to this child like behavior. Get on with it. The cheif is so not acting his role as mentor and leader and where is Bailie in all of this? She seems to have dissapeared as a force in the hospital.
I will continue to watch for 2 or 3 more shows but I have the program on probation now. My time is important to me and I will not waist it on this cheep attention grabing story line.

i am not excited at all about those new faces i hate them they r boring and romance is shit, they will not bring any new drama this competion were in season one and two with our beloved characters the main characters. i cant find any benefit for these fresh faces i acan see tht the show is going back not moving forward does the writer finish her new thought??? if so plz end it

I do not like Grey’s anymore, and I have been an avid fan ever since the first episode! No new characters!! And getting rid of Izzy was absurd, especially after saving her life after almost killing her off! Why keep her alive if you are going to get rid of her a couple of episodes later?! Now Izzy is gone, George is gone, and a whole new cast is being introduced. Wondering which one of our original cast members is going to go next! I am on the brink of leaving Grey’s, so get it together ABC! Don’t mess with a good thing!! New characters means old fans leave. Am I right fans!!???

Agreed, though I think Nora’s character Reed is the silver lining. She’s clearly driven and will stir up trouble, reminds me of Christina in the beginning.

  5. Fatima

I do think Nora is an amazing actress. Great work in films and she’s actually pretty funny on the show. Way better than the other 2 newbies.

what happened to all of you ??? we ARE supposed to hate the Mercy Westers .. that what shonda said on twitter .. and the episodes 6 and 7 were awesome .. all the fans loved them and “b” you care less because you want to care less, because some people are caring less, when you become optimistic, you will love the episodes ..
