“While Oscar winner Russell Crowe films his new thriller, State of Mind, in L.A., obviously a plain old hotel wouldn’t do for the actor, his wife, Danielle Spencer, and their children, Charlie,4, and Tennyson,1. The only residence fit for the Crowe family is the old stomping grounds of Scientology’s royal family: Tom, Katie and Suri Cruise. Russell and his family have been paying a cool $25,000 per week to rent the Beverly Hills mansion.

The Cruises vacated the house last year. Although it served as home to the world’s biggest movie star and his family, the mansion, which was built in 1927 and boasts “massive” staff quarters, has been branded “run-down” and “unfashionable” by insiders.

Meanwhile, Tom, Katie and Suri have been staying in the penthouse suite at the exclusive “VIP only” Celebrity Scientology Hotel in Hollywood, Calif, while work is being finished on their new $35 million Beverly Hills home. Former guest and fellow Scientologist John Travolta describes the hotel in their pamphlet as a place to get “good rest, good food, good service but most of all I felt very safe in this space.”

Since Andrew Morton’s controversial Tom Cruise biography hit bookstores, the Cruise family has been spending quite a bit of time holed up inside the posh hotel.

A source tells PageSix.com: “It’s a shame because they used to go out and about more but since that book came out they always stay inside the hotel with Suri.”
