Isabella and Connor Cruise have a new sister! Keith Urban’s rep has confirmed to UsMagazine.com that Nicole Kidman gave birth this morning to a baby girl. Her name is Sunday Rose Kidman Urban. She weighed 6 pounds, 7 ounces.
“Husband Keith was by Nicole’s side and mother and baby are very well,” the rep said.
Congratulations to Nicole, Keith, Connor and Isabella!!

so very happy for them!!! Nicole has to be so thrilled to have successfully delivered her new baby!!! I have always liked her and think Keith is great as well……what a lovely couple….how wonderful for them all!!!
What’s with the name “Sunday Rose Kidman Urban”? The name SUnday rhymes with SUri. Both starts with SU.
And does’t Suri in Persian word means red rose?
Loika, the baby was born on Sunday. But, your conspiracy theory is more fun. BTW, Suri also means pickpocket in Japanese:)
Persian and Hebrew experts have both denied Cruise’s translation of Suri.
Lookia, you may not have gotten of Cruise and kidman divorcing, but I think both them have. And I could say the same thing about comparing Cruise’s and Kidman’s weddings in 2006. Katie and TC copied a lot from Kidman.
I do hope connor and bella get to time to bond with their new little sister.
It isn’t Cruise’s translation of the name Suri……….The baby book they were given with the name Suri translated it to be what the Cruise’s announced.
The TC/KH and NK/KU weddings were as different as night and day.
I can’t see why Bella and Conor wouldn’t be allowed to bond with their little sister.
Congratulations to Keith and Nicole on the birth of their daughter Sunday Rose.
Is it possible Bella wasn’t with Tom and Katie on 4 July because she was in Nashville? It would be good to know that they really do have a relationship with their mother because I can see why people wonder given where she lives and how rarely we see them together. She might just be really good at being private but it is hard not to think that either she is not working hard to keep close to them, or there is some kind of issue either with Tom or scientology that makes that relationship difficult. I suspect we will never know, or not until one of the kids decides to write their memoirs when they are older.
My personal take is that this is totally possible. Bella has always seemed pretty close to her mom. When she visited her in I believe Australia, from the pictures I saw back then, it looked like she adored her mom. I hope she was able to go there. If we hear she was in some kind of Scientology ‘camp’ during this great bonding time with her mom and the newest arrival, in my view, that won’t look too good on Tom.
I did a little check with Wikipedia. This statement is from there: “Cruise stated that the name derives from the Hebrew word for “princess” or the Persian word meaning red rose.”
You can also check on this link below for the meaning of Suri.

I think deep down in TC’s & NK’s heart they still love each other. And that’s why without them realizing it, they copy each other.
Here is an article from celebrity-babies.com
Sunday Rose: Behind Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban’s name choice
With many readers expressing their opinions on Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban’s choice of Sunday Rose for their new baby girl, we spoke to Linda Rosenkrantz, co-author of The Baby Name Bible: The Ultimate Guide By America’s Baby-Naming Experts, about the history behind day names and working with unusual surnames.
A really surprising and unique choice — the name Sunday has hardly been heard since the 1940s, when there was a soap opera called Our Gal Sunday. Unlike months of the year (April, May, June) which are quite common, day names are rare, with the exception of Tuesday Weld and Wednesday on The Addams Family. Unusual as it is, Sunday does project a nice sunny, serene image, it being the day of rest.
In contrast, Nicole and Keith did choose the middle name du jour, as Rose has replaced dated middle names like Ann and Lynn as probably the most commonly used today.
There’s a definite trend — particularly among celebrities — to use both parent’s surnames, asserting their equality, some of them going so far as to hyphenate them, a la Jolie-Pitt. Keith and Nicole did have a challenging last name to work with — if they had chosen a place name like Georgia, for example, Georgia Urban might have sounded more like a bus line than a baby!
Looika, tc had 4 years to get back together with nk if he wanted, ithink she would have taken him back with open arms, and manly beach , is awhole lot different froma castle in italy…..trust me, their marriages were as different as nks and khs hair colour
I doubt Tom is holding any candles for Nicole. He was very firm on the split and he seems like a guy who makes decisions and sticks to them. I cannot speak for Nicole. I am very happy for her about her baby Sunday Rose though. Rose is a beautiful name.
I just had a thought, if she had a kid with Tom today, would she be called Sunday Suri or Suri Rose? Interesting!
I want to see what the little one looks like.
Rose is a beautiful middle name. No disagreement there. I recall Tom saying they didn’t give Suri a middle name, which would make sense since Scientologists don’t christen their kids.
BTW, the trend to give a child both parents’ last names isn’t all that recent. For example, Tom and Nicole named Conner and Isabella Kidman-Cruise.
Yeah maybe I was wrong to say TC still loves NK. I remember now one of Tom’s ex (I can’t remember whom) said once TC moves on, he never looks back.
Well, Rose comes from Keith’s grandma, and Sunday is from Nicole’s dad (according to the news), so I don’t think it was about copying TC.
Isabella’s middle name is Jane (Nicole’s mother) and Connor’s middle name is Anthony (Nicole’s father). I doubt it is a scientology thing since he was already scientologist when he had them. Travolta’s, Remini, Elfman’s kids all have middle names too.
I am not sure why Suri has no middle name. Tom said she is just Suri Cruise. Interesting since both Connor and Bella are Kidman-Cruise. May be NK insists on it and it means a lot to her. Maybe Suri has a middle name but it is protected in case she ever wants to go incognito.
No Lauren, I heard it from the horse mouth (TC) that they didn’t give Suri a middle name. And, as you have repeated many times over, we should believe the things that he says. The fact that the other two have middle names is most likely because their mother is Catholic and in Catholicism a middle name is important. Kind of a mute point since she allowed herself to be dragged into Scientology, but evidently an important tradition for her nonetheless. NK has a much stronger personality than KH so it’s not surprising that Suri has no middle name.
Tyler,
And other Scientologists whose kids have middle names? Like Jenna Elfman, her kid is called Story Elias Elfman. Travolta’s daughter is Ella Bleu.
Infact the only child I know without a middle name is Suri Cruise. Nicole was a Scientologist when she was married to Tom. If she is so strong, how come her kids have never been baptised in the Catholic church? How come they don’t call her mommy like she wants them to, but call her Nic. My kids would never call me by my name. She has issues with it and yet she can’t do anything about it. How come she was ‘dragged’ into scientology? Katie has more strength in her little finger than Nicole can have in 5 life times.
She is moving from place to place with her new husband as if she has no kids. She doesn’t even have a home in LA where they choose to live. Now she is in Nashville after saying she moved back to OZ because she missed home, how long till she divorces and moves to China?
I would never make sacrifices for a new husband that I can’t make for my kids. Infact I would buy a house next door to my hostile ex if it meant being near my kids.
I am ashamed to be saying all these things about Nicole, they are facts (she has even said in interviews that she does not have a strong character) Normally I am not into slagging off other celebs unless am using them as examples, but I don’t make it a habit to pick them apart. Apologies to NK’s fans. I had to point this out because of Tyler’s comparison. I do like Nicole, every one has their weaknesses. I am just tired of her being painted as Ms perfect, she is not and neither is Katie.
Let’s leave it at that. Wow.
Here is the explanation of baby Sunday Rose’s name-thanks to another fan
(of Kidman, not Cruise)
who did the research.
“Normally I am not into slagging off other celebs unless am using them as examples, but I don’t make it a habit to pick them apart.”
Could have fooled me!! You like picking people apart, whether you know them or not. You do that here all the time.
———————————————–
Who cares why someone names their baby what they do? Also, it has been how many years AND both parties have gotten on with their lives.
Just because you read a gossip column or watch an interview, doesn’t make you an authority about someone’s life. Also, they are actors and they make their money on their public image. Did it ever occur to anyone here that all parties involved are acting a part and telling the media what makes them look perfect? Did it ever occur to any of you that they see their kids when the cameras are not looking and snapping photos?
Honestly would Katie ever say that Cruise leaves the toilet seat up or Nicole say that Urban leaves his socks on the floor? NOOOOO! It is always, “Life is perfect. Like a fairytale.” You see and hear what they want you to see and hear.
Why do you think Cruise is so anal about confidentiality agreements? Because he is the perfect man, NOT!
“I am not emotional (try reading my posts in a calm tone and you will see
), I am just pissed like any fan would be.”
Isn’t ‘pissed’ an emotion? It is hard to be “pissed” and not emotional. If you can be both, please explain.
I wonder if it would kill some of you to just be happy for Nicole, her husband, Bella, and Connor. A new baby is a wonderful thing!
suri in japanese means PICKPOCKET. lol.
congrats to nicole and keith on their new baby girl. i love love love the name!
Anon, you see, only criticism of tomkat is negative. Everyone else is fair game, assuming you put it out there that you’re doing it in a calm tone.
Nicole has said before that she has a weak personality and Tom used to tell her to be more assertive. Most people on the other hand say Katie has a very strong personality. I can see why they say that. She has proved herself tough these laset three years. I must say I underestimated her.
Congs Nicole and Keith on the baby. Wish you all the best.
I have seen NK in interviews and I can tell you she does not have a weak personality. She tells it like it is. And, she’s a daredevil. She skydives, ocean dives with sharks and all that stuff that I wouldn’t in a million years do.
Too bad that KH has bowed down to TC the way she has. What a waste of a strong personality.

People Magazine have the story behind the name Sunday Rose… I think it is sweet and love both Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban. This is my first posting but have been watching the website for the last year or so. Truth be told, I hope people can post freely.
Thanks for that article Darin.
I don’t think there is anything weak about Nicole. She comes across as a pretty strong woman to me.
I also love the name Sunday Rose. I think it’s beautiful. I still remember when Gwyneth Paltrow and her husband named their daughter Apple. Now that name did have me scratching my head a bit.
I have a son named Josiah and we have friends who tried to talk us out of that name. I’m glad we didn’t listen. I still love his name.
I like the name that Keith and his beautiful legal wife, Nicole, have named their baby.
Since Bella was not in any of the Colorado pictures, I HOPE that it is because she is with her lovely mother and new baby sister!

It’s NOT rocket science.
Where was tc born? Syracuse
Where? Syracuse
Suri Cruise? YEP!
Congrats To NK and her husband!
I don’t know if anyone pointed this out to Tyler, but “Sunday Rose” was not born on Sunday. She was born on Monday. According to the news they named her after one of KU’s song.
“Persian and Hebrew experts have both denied Cruise’s translation of Suri.”
Are we surprised some media tried to make controversy out of Suri’s name (the daughter of Tomkat) by getting SOME experts who denied this?! NO! But not all did!
Like someone said Tom and Katie got the name from baby book, where the name Suri translated to be what they announced.
“The Comprehensive Dictionary of English & Hebrew First Names”

Not everybody know this (that includes some Jews too) but the name Suri is a Yiddish version of Sarah.
“Avshalom Koor, who has for years presented TV and radio spots on the intricacies of Hebrew, said Suri was a derivation of Sarah — the name of Biblical patriarch Abraham’s wife — as pronounced by some Central European Jews.”
“Suri is a pet name for Sarah,” Koor told Army Radio. “The Ashkenazi (Jews) of Poland and Hungary pronounce it Suri.”

MORE ARTICLE ABOUT THE NAME.
I am mystified that they are mystified about Suri
By now its well known that Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes named their baby Suri. Their comment, that it means “red rose” in Persian and “princess” in Hebrew got a lot of press, especially from linguists who scoff at the claim that suri means princess. That would be sarah. Hebrew experts explained that suri would mean “a person from Syria” or “go away” in Hebrew. Language Log has a post about it, with links to more discussion in the language blogvelt. LL quotes an interesting theory by Roger Friedman of FOX News:
To get the name Suri, you actually have to subscribe to Kabbalah, a very distant offshoot of Judaism. Suri would really be Sarah, except Kabbalah — as it is now taught to celebrities — is all about taking letters and making new words out of them. … Suri is derived from Sarah mathematically.
Many, if not most readers of this blog know that the whole discussion is hogwash. We know full well exactly what the name Suri is–it is a Yiddish version of Sarah, with diminutive attached. We probably all know Suris. LL does note that a Reuters article says
The article does note that Suri as a nickname for Sarah, though “all but unknown in Israel,” is still attested. For instance, there’s Jerusalem journalist Surie Ackerman, whose given name is “a formalized version of a nickname given by fellow ultra-Orthodox Jews in her native United States.”
But LL doesn’t seem to give a lot of prominence to this point.
But that is the point. God only knows how the Cruise-Holmes people came across the particular form Suri, and came to understand it to be Hebrew (Hebrische, Judische, its all the same). But of course Suri is Sarah! Take a chassidishe accent which turns a komatz into a shuruk and Sarah (or Sorah) becomes Surah. Add a cutesy “i” to the end (Shmuely, Johnny) and presto, you’ve got Suri, Hebrew Jewish for “princess.”

(Whats going on? Only half of my post showed up. Here is the first part of that comment.)

And you were wrong when you said “Persian experts have both denied Cruise’s translation of Suri”,. The name Suri in Persian does mean “Red Rose” and this has not been denied by experts.
“The Persian derivation is relatively uncontroversial. Various websites on Persian names list Souri/Suri (transliterations of سوری) with the gloss ‘red rose.’ And a check of the 1892 Steingass Persian-English Dictionary does indeed find an entry for sūrī, defined as “a beautiful red rose of an odoriferous and exhilarating flavour.” It’s apparently a shortened form of guli sūrī or gol-e suri (transliterations of گل سوری), where suri modifies the noun gul (or gol) meaning ‘rose’ in particular or ‘flower’ more generally. An article in Encyclopedia Iranica ( http://www.iranica.com/articles/v11f1/v11f1033.html ) explains that gol-e suri is one of several names for the red rose in Persian poetic usage..
That is very informative Tia. Thanks.
I actually begin to understand Chris Martin of Cold play. Who cares about a name? It is only a sound after all. And if it sounds nice to you, it is your child and call them whatever you want.
I heard on the news today that Suri means “hooked nose” in another language. I am just letting all of you know what I heard. I like the name Suri….it is different and sounds nice, but the guy was talking about all of the celebrities baby names.
When is TC’s birthday? I find that they say the fourth of July, but I have also heard the 7th. Is that when Sunday was born? If so, how funny is that?
Kelli, Tom’s birthday is on the 3rd of July
sorry ,this has nothing to do with what is being discussed here, but , eyes wide shut with nk and tc was on at the movies on tv tonight, isaw it a few years ago , again on tv, but you know what, honestly, iknow they are movie stars and everything, but how could a married couple with 2 young children, ever think of ever making that movie, watching tom in that movie, suri is looking more and more like him. i love the name suri, it has an exotic ring about it, could never imagine a middle nameto go with suri
Happy for NK and KU.. Actually love the name.. Sunday Rose is unusual but not a totally strange name like Apple or Tellulah or Coco. Happen to like the name Suri too. What’s in a name? Well self-esteem for one thing. As a parent, you are giving a person something they will have to live with forever. I think it is a very important part of a person’s self identity. It isn’t a bad thing to have a different sort of name, but if it is too different or weird, a child can become quite self-conscious about themselves..
Puck, another reason for Suri:
It should be noted if the name of Tom Cruise’s daughter spells as Surrey that would be a town in South East of England where Lafayette Ron Hubbard’s home was and where the Scientology’s headquarters is built. Lafayette Ronald Hubbard (1911-1986), better known as L. Ron Hubbard, was a prolific American author and founder of the controversial Church of Scientology. In addition to the books on Scientology, he wrote science fiction, business management texts, essays, and poetry. Tom cruise is known to be a member of the Church of Scientology.
Note, both Suri and Surrey are pronounced the same way!!
Are we through discussing all the conspiracies now?
Anon., I get the feeling sometimes you get annoyed by these type of discussions? I get it, sometimes everyone gets carried away, but if people want to discuss things in depth and explain the facts, then what’s the problem? This is a blog afterall.
I’m always reading one of your comments where you tell people to move on or are we through?
Tom and Katie have explained how and where they picked out Suri’s name (including the meaning) and if some people want to link it to their religion then that is not TomKat’s problem or their choosing.
Well, sorry to say I’m not crazy about either name, Suri or Sunday, but that’s just me.
Anon, that is very interesting that Surrey is the town of L. Ron and the headquarters for CoS. That makes much more sense that tc would use that name as a basis for Suri, rather than him linking her to Iran (in this day and age).
Hope mother and baby are doing well.
Back to the name, “Sunday Rose”. When I first read the name I didn’t really like it. I’m used to celebrities naming their children unusual names but naming your kid after a “day” I thought was up there with with Apple…but that was before I read the article Darin posted and a bit more about “Sunday Reed” herself.
And then I thought, what were they thinking? And if this was TomKat naming their kid after someone famous like that, everyone would have had an opinion and mocked them for it. For example, look at this thread, its about NK but ppl are still analyzing Suri’s name?
How can you get an inspiration to name your baby after someone who was an adulterer, who committed suicide, and the list goes on.
“Sunday Reed was famous for her patronage of the arts, but also for her relationship with Sidney Nolan. Reed and her husband took part in a menage-a-trois type affair with the artist, which lasted nine years in the 1930s and resulted in Sunday becoming Nolan’s muse.”
“Nicole Kidman and Urban had spent a long time looking at a quote by Nolan about birth, hanging in a Sydney art gallery, shortly before announcing Kidman’s pregnancy in January 2008″
They should have just went along with the first report that, they named her after one of KU’s songs.
But hey, whatever gets you more attention, right?
And lets not forget Sunday, emulates Suri because both begin with SU.
I wouldn’t put that past NK.
Hana, you blathered on, but missed the point. You should have posted the quote since I understand that is what inspired NK to choose the name. Did you intentionally omit it because I thought it was part of that article?
So, you like the name Suri, but not Sunday? Interesting. I don’t like either.
I am confused by the comment that Suri is pronounced like Surrey – the “su” in Surrey being a short u as in “sun”. I thought Suri was a long u, as in “soon” and so was pronounced “Soorie”. I am sure that is how Tom and Oprah pronounced it.
Susan, you might be right. Wonder why neither of them corrected it in interviews back in the early days..
I was shocked to hear that Nk named her daughter Sunday.. Im not a big fan of hers but i am a fan of
the name since thats what i named my 2 year old daughter…Sunday Isabelle …adorable
