Nicole Richie is planning her return to TV, this time as star of a scripted comedy, according to Variety.
The single-camera half-hour sitcom is in development at ABC.
The script, being produced through Sony Pictures TV, would feature Richie as a professional woman with complicated family relationships and struggling to figure out what role she’ll take as her life and family revolve, Variety said.
Richie had the initial idea for the show and will get a producing credit in addition to starring.
Most people remember Richie’s reality television stint with Paris Hilton on The Simple Life. She also has made appearances on Chuck, 8 Simple Rules, American Dreams and Eve.
Daisy Gardner (Californication) will write the comedy; Warren Bell (According to Jim) will executive produce and supervise the pilot script. Jamie Tarses also is an exec producer. Michael Baum of Impression Entertainment also is a producer, the Variety article said.

My only question is what is the twist on this show? There must be a “twist” about her “complicated family life” that they want to keep secret for now that will make this show unique.
