Nicole Richie is this month’s Harper’s Bazaar cover girl! The article is all about how the “former wild child” has mellowed down and is starting a family of her own. The photo shoot is gorgeous, Nicole is wearing a canary yellow dress and it features her whole family–Joel, Lionel and baby Harlow!
The article is available online and it’s pretty good. They interview lots of family and friends who keep bragging about what a fantastic mother Nicole is and how much she’s grown over the past year. There’s even a bit about how Nicole and Joel met and about Joel meeting Nicole’s parents for the first time.
“I brought him over to my dad’s house,” Nicole says. “They’re both musicians, they’re both from the South, and they’re both very conservative, so they got along right away.”

For all those who thought i was being too cynical, when i called out the whole “new nicole schtick as a PR move”, let me just ,say “I told you so!!!!” Sorry, but i’ve been involved with PR way too long not to see all this long ago when it was first set in motion last year….. it’s text book!!!
if you review my old posts, it’s all there, PR item for PR item; using Harlow, using Lionel (the beloved 80’s icon), the conservative family values play, the distancing herself from Paris, complete with the back-handed, anti-Paris comments, etc, etc, etc. paris is positioned as the icon of “bad wild life” and Joel/Harlow are positioned as the hooks to leveraging the new “good, virtuous girl/mom” persona.
Wow, Nicole’s people are playing this just great and giving the public what they want to hear in order to redeem her. I just hope it’s worth her friendship with Paris. Great PR move, too bad not such a nice friend in the end – poor charchter, Nicole, very poor charachter!!!

Oh, and by “legal standards” I meant the Mason–Dixon Line… haha. Maryland is right on the border of the line, but yeah, it’s South.

Conservative family values being a PR move? If you knew anything you’d know Joel was raised Christian and that’s what he believes, he is a bit more conservative, but no, that’s a PR move too.
Distancing herself from Paris is a PR move? Maybe she just doesn’t like her anymore. Believe it or not, that happens sometimes.
You seem to have such a problem with accepting the fact that Nicole has grown up and changed, so you call everything a PR move.

until then, yeah, what nicole and Joel are doing is a pretty textbook image rejuvenation strategy.
and do a little research on Joel, you may find him not as christian as he is portraying himself to be right now
…but again, it’s all well and good. i don’t mind her trying to restyle herself in the public eye, but she can do that without bashing paris. that’s the point. as it’s become a pretty aggressive, dog-eat-dog world, you never know when you’ll need a great, loyal friend, so you should take care of the ones you have. to have a best friend since you’re two years old is very rare adn shouldn’t be treated so cavalierly.
Okay, so you’ve got experience, that doesn’t mean that anytime it looks like a ‘rejuvenation strategy’ that that’s what it is.
I don’t need to do any research on Joel, I’ve been a Good Charlotte fan since 2003, so I think I got that down.
Where has she bashed Paris? I haven’t seen that anywhere. Could you kindly direct me to an article where she’s bashing her?
And again, maybe Nicole has drifted apart from Paris, so I still don’t know how that makes Nicole so horrible. People who’ve been friends for years and years have drifted apart before. It happens.
