Nigel Lythgoe is no longer the executive producer for American Idol but he definitely had some things to say about Paula Abdul’s decision to leave the show. While he said that it’s unfortunate (and he said that he doesn’t know if it’s an official thing) but he stressed that she’s only part of the show since it is the talent that makes Idol the popular show that it is. He did go on to say that Paula was the heart of the show and she was always there to pick up the contestants and dust them off after a bad performance (or some harsh criticism from Simon Cowell).
He did seem to take aim at Kara DioGuardi, though he didn’t mention her by name. He said that he hopes that whomever replaces Paula has the “ability to understand these kids and praise them.” Yeah, I hope so too!
