No more raiding tombs for Angelina Jolie

Angelina Jolie not returning as Lara Croft in next Tomb Raider

Back when we were discussing movies we’d love to see with Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, many people expressed an interest in seeing Angelina return as Lara Croft in another Tomb Raider installment. Looks like it’s not going to happen.

Apparently the role of Lara Croft will be resumed by someone new, 23-year-old Alison Carroll. You can check it out over here.

(I was amused by the story about how she got locked in her apartment the day of her big meeting with producers and had to throw her bags over the first-floor balcony, leaped over, and jumped the fence to get there.)

It will be interesting to see how she holds up. To me, Angelina Jolie will always be Lara Croft so I’m not sure how well I can accept a new version. It would be, to me, as if they replaced Harrison Ford as Han Solo in Return of the Jedi.

On the other hand, if Angelina does indeed take on the new CIA role sometime next year, she’ll still have plenty of time for high action stunt work!

Edited to add: I read this late last night, after a very long and tiring day. As a result I misunderstood and didn’t realize that this new girl is not starring in an upcoming movie, she is simply the new promotional girl for the game. Sorry for the confusion.

However, now I’d like to open it up for discussion and ask you all who else in Hollywood could play Lara Croft if Angelina Jolie did not take the role for a hypothetical new Tomb Raider film? If it can’t be her, who’s your next choice? The only person I can think of off the top of my head is maybe Jennifer Garner because of her great work on Alias. The biggest problem there, though is that she doesn’t quite look the part. She’s very pretty but she’s more of the “girl next door” look whereas Angelina really did look like Lara Croft is supposed to.

Ideas?

I asked my husband last night who he thought would make a good Lara Croft. His answer surprised me, Keira Knightley. Now I know she doesn’t has it up front to play Lara Croft, but after some thought I thought way not. Jessica Alba would be good too.

Ok I can’t find the thread were this conversation took place. Who was the Star Wars Fan on this site? I thought it was Mary Ann but now I am not sure who it was, but I know she was a grandmother.

    LOL at NYPost’s creative writing.

Melodie I know, I remember when she said that too! People are so desperate for Angie news they put her name into everything to get hits. But has got to be one of the sillier stories out there.

Josephine Baker died broke; her children had to be separated and placed with friends after she died. If you have a lot of children, need to make sure you can provide for them. Mia raised all her kids, where did her money come from?

Wow! She’s gotten so big. So pretty.

Ligaya, I’m sure you mean well, but I really never understand how personally you take opinions (about other people) here, and how quick you are to attack. It feels very nasty. Never have I ever criticized something you have said. I’m entitled to my opinions. I never express them as anything else other than my opinions. I admire the JPs a lot. I think I’ve said that. Please don’t attack me.

Mary Ann tell your hubby, you will treat him to see a movie. I always do that to my husband & it seems working. He watch Brad & Angie movies with me & when his turn to see his fav. movies, I give him company, it’s a matter of give & take & lots of TLC (tender loving care). God bless the Jolie-Pitt’s.

Yes, it is only Angelina Jolie who could be Lara Croft. However, if, and if, there need to be a replacemnt, the closest I think to being Lara Crost is Cameron Diaz.

Kim, I have a bad memory also. So I don’t recall what we were talking about. But this Friday I will be hanging with Sydney and Skye because Mommy and Daddy have their ball room dancing lesson. This is their together time. My son-in-law wanted to give her something that she wanted for a long time for her birthday. They tried it out and now they go once a week. But two weeks ago hubby took me to see Wanted and then dinner. He loved Wanted. Thank goodness. Now I am trying to figure out how to get him to Changeling when it comes out.

Thanks sher, i nominate brad to stay home with with HIS kids since he wanted a soccer team of kids, angie never made that quote, people misquote angie a lot, hmmm. For all the fans out there angie will continue to make many movies because she has the support of her life partner, brad pitt, and his opinion is the only one that counts.

I’m with you on the replacing,I watch Croft everytime it’s on. How about Jessica Alba.

Oh and my comment about who could be Lady Croft at 8:46am is still under moderation if anyone wants to read it later.

Mary Ann I can’t remember if it was you or not (it was about a month ago we talked about it and my memory is bad a times), But I bet I know what you are doing this Friday night. Big date at the movie theater?

Plus, I think Tomb Raider and Lara Croft will all ways hold a special place in AJ’s heart, as it brought her to Mad. I could total see Mad and Pax wanting AJ to do another Lady Croft movie.

Why is this not a traditional family? Maybe not in modern term last 2 generations (1940′s), but it was before that time. Lots of people have big families, with much more then 6 children in it. Plus they (Jolie-Pitts) have loads of help both family and hired. I don’t know way everyone make such a big deal about the size and age of this family. My friend has 5 kids all under the age of 5. daughter, son and triplets and she works and so does her husband (both lawyers). Economically they found it was cheaper to hirer a live in nanny then pay for day care. AJ and Brad can hire I army of nannies and teachers etc. and they only work a couple of months a year. That leaves lots of time for them to play with the kids and take them places. And as I have just found out (my son is 8) kids by the time they are 8 don’t really want to hang out with their parents, they would rather be with their friends and siblings. I really don’t think AJ needs to make any choice between acting/working and staying home with the kids she is practically home all year now as it is. And I can’t tell how jealous I am of this.

Sherry, tried to send you an e-mail yesterday I don’t think it went through. Send one to me please and then I will reply. Thanks

Melodie, you are doing just fine with your English, because of me getting up there in years my thoughts and spelling leave alot to be desired. There so many of you that are part of our community that English is not your first language and you are all to be so proud of yourselves. Write it we will understand it.

Irma, you have express my thoughts so well.

And Ligaya, when our children were very young my husband worked 2 full time jobs, and when he got in at 10pm I left for the hospital to work midnight shift. This was something we had to do to give our children a good life. We all do what we have to do to provide.

UNDER MOD: agreeing and disagreeing with Carrie’s post.

P.S. I think Josephine Baker and Mia Farrow are wonderful, inspiring role models. When I think about it, there are many, many families (including women single-heads of household) with as many or more children. The only difference is that Josephine and Mia are/were entertainers, and they deliberately made families that were inclusive in terms of race and nationality, adopted and biological (although Josephine had no biological kids).

No one can replace Angie as Lara Croft. If there’s going to be another movie with a new actor in it, I’ll probably not going to watch it.

However, I like to see Angie as Catwoman too.
