Welcome to Open Mic Night at Medium Dreams.
Each Wednesday we open up the comments so you can talk amongst yourselves before, during, and after the show. This week’s episode is Second Opinion (MED-050), where Allison dreams little Marie dies of Leukemia in twenty years and Scanlon faces the death of (yet another) friend. I would not call it a “fun” episode but I am looking forward to seeing Allison
and Joe age twenty years as well as see what Marie grows up to look like.
Come to this post before, during, and/or after the show to chat about Medium in the comments. Talk about the show. Gossip about the actors. Meet some of your fellow readers and commenters. Or go off on a completely unrelated tangent. That is what Open Mic Night is all about. Just have fun!
I will arrive between 6:00 and 7:00pm PST but no need to wait for me. Comments are open as soon as this post goes up.
See you later!

Oh boy, my fav day of the week is finally here! Now if 9 PM will just roll around faster! As usual, I will be reading the comments tonight and post any of my own comments tomorrow.
I really hope this episode offers us a great Scanlon episode like “Knowing Her” did in Season 2. It’s so nice to see him showcased. After all, David Cubitt is the world’s most perfect man!
Yay! It’s Wednesday again! I can’t wait to see this ep and hear what everyone has to say about it. Looks like another great one! It just keeps getting better and better. Can’t wait til 10 o’clock. It’s gonna be a long day.
Just a fun tidbit about David Cubitt courtesy of the CATV site, in an interview with the “Medium” cast members, they said David Cubitt’s nickname on the set is “C Train”.
As I already knew, they say he is a really great guy, what you see is what you get.
Jake Weber (Joe Dubois) said, “I think he (Scanlon) has a bit of a “Jones” for my wife. I want him to stay away from her!”
Is this “Jones’ thing a Yankee expression or what, because I have never heard that before?
Also in the ep with the Alderman who supposedly hanged himself and Scanlon was searching for a nice way to put it to the Alderman’s wife that he was basically trying to get off watching porn in the internet – funny watching him struggle for words. He later says to Allison something about the guy having his “John Thomas” in his hand and his pajamas around his ankles. I’ve never heard it referred to as that before either. Another Yankee expression?
Hey, I thought you all might like to know that Maria Lark is going to be on Access Hollywood tonight. She will be revealing a surprise about George Clooney. Only problem is that here, it comes on at 10:30. Anyone want to know what I’ll be watching and my DVR will be taping tonight at 10:30? Yep, I’ll be in the middle of Medium. So I’m going to use my untrustworthy VCR and tape Access Hollywood. Who knows if it will really tape, but I’m going to try. Thought you all might be interested. Maybe it doesn’t come on at 10:30 at night wherever you live.
Access Hollywood already aired here, It was a cute interview, they talked about when Maria was on Jay Leno with George Clooney.
Betty: A “jones” is an addiction or a craving for something. I think it started as a drug term. Something to do with heroin. John Thomas has been around the states for a while but I hear Johnson more often. Anything is better than the P word. It is such an ugly word, with a slithery sssssssssss ending. Ick.
Ooh, the East Coast is almost done watching tonight’s episode. JEALOUS!
How nice Betty is here! Such a sweetheart!
Sheila, just a quick check in to let you know that
Chas LOVED your post on GetSheila – Truly, it meant the world to him. Thank you SO much!
Everybody enjoy the show tonight! I’m stuck watching the Designer thingy on Bravo until we get caught up on Medium on DVD!
Dang! I missed Access Hollywood. It doesn’t repeat here later, either. Bummer.
JCW: I’m so glad Chas liked it. Enjoy Scary Oldham tonight.
Everyone: JCW is talking about a kitty obituary I wrote for his cat Nick, who died on Monday. In case you were wondering.
Scary indeed! What the hell is that guy’s problem?
He’s like the guy at the mental hospital who’s sent to calm you down, but won’t explain how you wound up there in the first place.
Ick!
Oh that’s CREEPY, imaging the mental hospital and not knowing why you are there and getting all upset and some big guy coming and talking to you like you’re a crazy person. Ack!
Hey there. I usually miss this show, but saw it tonight. Did you see it already? Cameron from Ferris Bueller was in it. I like him.
Really?? I haven’t seen it yet. It starts in 20 minutes. How was it? Creepy? Predictable? Throw me a bone!
It’s worse than that Sheila…
Some frail, soft spoken, queeny guy with a lisp
coming in and talking to you like you’re a crazy person…..
Enough to make you think you had a seizure in the dressing room at Saks!
LMAO! I wonder what he would do for Patricia Arquette, were he her stylist.
Ooh! Ooh! It’s starting. Is that a growed up Ariel or Bridgette?
Ariel grew up to be a stunner. And the doctor was cute…but the previews indicate he may not be such a nice guy. Hm.
Allison sounds hoarse. Patricia got a cold?
Holy crap! What is Scanlon doing back together with DiNovi?
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1
Oh THANK GOD it was just a dream.
We’re moving? Well, uh, that is certainly one way to handle it.
Hey, meatier part for Joe again this week. And out of the mouths of babes: Bridgettes points out, however inadvertently, that the next family that buys their house may have kids, too. The Poison House, or so Allison thinks.
Don’t. Drink. The. Water.
I’m CST and thought it was a *great* episode! There were the usual plot holes, but seeing Scanlon in action was worth it
(Note: If the stalker from the other site who knows who he is reads my posts, please leave me alone)
You have a comment stalker? Bummer.
Hey, the preview for next week IS about the SOS episode, but with a new (more famous) guy in the bad-guy role.
Okay, I’m off to bed kids. See you tomorrow!
Sheila, you didn’t have much to say tonight. What did you think of the episode? I liked it.It wasn’t as good as last week’s, but then they can’t all be that good, can they? I liked seeing Allison’s maternal instincts come out and her conflict with her dreams. I’ve been saying for months that they need to have more of that aspect of it. It makes the character more believable. I thought Patricia and Jake did an excellent job as always, particularly with the arguing scenes. They do that so well, don’t they? And the future scenes with Marie dying and Joe and Allison were very well done. And even though I saw it in the teaser, when Allison pulled out the gun and shot the doctor, I was still shocked. As someone said earlier, this one did have some holes in it, but none that were glaringly obvious to me in the first viewing. After watching it again, I could see them, but it still wasn’t enough to disappoint me. This show is always excellent, even at its worst.
Dawn: It’s hard to have much to say when you are having a one-sided conversation.
It is much funner when I have people to interact with. I really liked how Joe had a meatier part again this week. And seeing what the girls grew up to look like was fun. Except Bridgette. We didn’t get to see Bridgette. I am dying to know what they think she will grow up to look like!
[...] Brett’s review of Second Opinion (MED-050) is up at TVSquad. [...]
First off, thank you Sheila for that explanation – I’m the first person to admit that Bridgette would know more drug names and nicknames than me! Interesting, I think Scanlon (who mumbles sometimes, but I still love him) said to the roommate something about “how bad his Jones was” for the drugs, I guess.
Thanks JCW – it’s always nice to be appreciated! I’m so sorry about the kitty! That can be so devastating to lose a pet.
Now – I apologize to all – the thud and screaming you heard last night was me seeing Di Novi back with Scanlon.
THANK GOD THAT WAS JUST A DREAM!
However, if the writers are using that to set up Scanlon getting back with Di Novi in a future ep, I swear I will slit my wrists!
I can see how he would think about having someone next to him, to share with him, to comfort him, etc. and it’s only natural to think about the last person you really cared about being there. The biatch broke his heart, doesn’t deserve him, and doesn’t even seem like the comforting type anyway – too wrapped up in her own orbit if you know what I mean.
The other reason is the chic can’t act! A robot would have done as well.
I did feel they got a little caught up in the Marie dying part – I wish they would have connected the two earlier or something.
Why didn’t Scanlon call Allison from Gary’s apartment when he found the body? Do I just watch too much CSI or what, but since Gary obviously made it all the way to the NA meeting, his roommate had to have coericed him into leaving that parking lot, got him all the way home and then drugged him, and the coronor didn’t see anything out of the ordinary?
There I go being picky again.
Did it bother anyone else, or am I just even more visually impaired then I would like to admit, but I had a terrible time seeing much in the scene where Scanlon confronted the roommate in the apartment? It was so dark. Don’t they know that David Cubitt’s eyes and facial expressions are 90% of his acting and we (or at least I) could barely see him? He is a very nuanced actor and the littlest change can signify so much. I couldn’t tell for the life of me what that was Scanlon was holding up when he went into the kitchen? Such a nasty kitchen counter – YUK!
Not nearly as many people participating this week as last – did the possiblity of Marie’s death in 20 years turn people off?
Sheila,
Just wanted to ask you what you think of all these ratings numbers. Do you think they really mean anything or is it just a way for the ad agencies to justify the millions of dollars they spend? How much emphasis do you think the networks put on these numbers? I’m beginning to get REALLY concerned about Medium’s future, because last night’s numbers were the lowest of the season. That’s got me scared. The only thing that gives me hope is that CSI:NY is going on hiatus in a couple of weeks and will be in repeats (I guess) until April. Maybe that will allow Medium to build its viewership back up. You got any insights on this to ease my mind? Sorry for posting this here, but I didn’t know where else to put it.
LOL Betty. I freaked when I saw Di Novi. Then it was just a dream, thank God. But yet he was dreaming about her. NOOOOOOOO! LOL He needs another chick who can act to dream about.
The roomie killing Gary in the parking lot didn’t make an f of a lot of sense. But I guess if you’re high and willing to murder, you’ll do it anywhere. And the last scene in Gary’s apt. was a bit too dark, ITA.
My favourite thing was early on in the ep when Scanlon asked the fussy woman to “please” do another autopsy. I’d have done it. Way too cute.
I thought you’d agree nansee! If they hook Scanlon up with someone, (if it can’t be me) please let it be someone else. We need some hot sex scenes with Scanlon – just not with her!
I think it would be cool if they came up with a storyline that someone from Scanlon’s past in narcotics is out for revenge or something. Surely, if he spent any time at all working undercover, you’d think he’s evetually run into someone from that past somewhere along the line. Or he could be asked to come back and work an undercover assignment as his former alter ego for a specific case. Anything to give him more and varied stuff to do.
Better yet, he could hook up with DiNovi and someone from his undercover past could kill her for revenge! Yea! That’s the ticket! Then we’d be rid of her and Scanlon would have some meaty stuff to work with.
Every time I see Tina DiJoseph under “guest star” I cringe.
I didn’t know where to put this, so I thought this would be a good spot. Allison DuBois was evidently on 1 vs. 100 tonight. I taped it, but haven’t watched it yet. Another thing to add to my to do list…
Holly: You know, someone else mentioned that somewhere, or was it you emailing me? Anyway, I had never heard of that show before and didn’t get a chance to Tivo it. Let me know how it went.
No, I it wasn’t me e-mailing you. I watched it for this game show for the first time ever, but don’t worry, you didn’t miss much. The concept of the show is for the contestant to get the trivia question right, and for everyone else (the mob) to miss it. When this happens, the contestant ins so much money for each time it happens. Only when you miss the question (be it the contestant or a member of the mob) you’re done. Allison actually almost made it to the end of the hour. She ended up missing a question I thought was really easy: when you are making a smiley wink on the computer what do you use (something like that)? The answer is obviously a semi-colon, but she missed it. But, really, you didn’t miss much. She hardly said anything.
