Parents of Missing Girl to Appear on Oprah

It’s been almost two years since little Madeline McCann went missing and her parents will be on Oprah to mark the second anniversary of her disappearance.  They had been invited to share their story when it first happened but they declined.  "It was felt, in the immediate aftermath of Madeleine’s disappearance, that a celebrity-based show was not the image they wished to put forward," said their spokesman Clarence Mitchell.  "But life has moved on and it is now felt it will benefit the search."

McCanns React To Madeleine Case Closure

Interesting.  You would think that image would have been the last thing these people cared about when it came to finding their missing daughter.  Their spokesman added "Kate and Gerry see the show as a very important opportunity to reach a global audience and it’s a significant step in the hunt for Madeleine.  It’s seen by millions in the US and worldwide and they hope these pictures will lead to the crucial sighting that will bring their daughter home."  That’s exactly my point.  Why wouldn’t they have wanted to reach millions in those early days when the possibility of finding her seemed more attainable?  I don’t get it.  I think I would have been swinging from every mountaintop and crying on every television show to get my baby back.  I shouldn’t judge, I don’t know (and I don’t want to know) how this family feels but I do find it strange.

The little British girl was vacationing with her family in Portugal when she suddenly vanished on May 3, 2007.
