Poor Paris my ass! She DESERVES the punishment she got. This was NOT her first offense. She blatantly disregarded what she was ordered to do the first time she got caught driving under the influence. I can see it happening to ANYONE at least once. This is not her first rodeo and she, of all people, can easily afford to have a driver (unlike the rest of us who have to rely on taxi when needed). Quit crying Paris, you did the crime now do the time. I guarantee this is the first time that she actually has to suffer the repercussions for her outrageous behavior and I’d also venture to say that this will be the LAST time she goes out partying and doesn’t have a driver, designated or paid for to get her drunk heirASS home.

There is nothing wrong with Paris Hilton. The Sheriff,her family and her lawyer tried to play a get out of jail card. She deserves to be behind bars just like someone else who does the same crime. I think this whole thing is terrible. I personally do not think she belongs in jail, dont get me wrong she needs to be held accountable for what she did, but I dont believe jail was the answer, there could have been a more productive route they could have take with her, and no she is not like everyone else, thanks to all of us we have made her into the celebrity we see before us. Look what they did for Naomi, she went and worked, if anyone deserves jail that bitch does. That is the thing with society today and how we idolize hollywood and its actors, we make them into almost like a supreme being, come on face it, they are not like everyone else, and we are the ones feeding that. She is obviously scared shitless, and I dont blame her, And I dont think it is right she is getting even more punished because the sherriffs let her out early, Anyone who has been in jail knows that you cannot sweet talk the jail staff to let you out, they decide to let you out, so why is she being punished for his mistake, it all boils down to the court system trying to prove some sort of point to society that idolizes her and feeds her image into being some sort of super being. And last, Sarah Silverman at the awards show was out of line, there was no need to get a final twist of the knife, and in such a crude way, before she turned herself in, not only do us common people make her a spectacle, but hollywood is feeding the frenzy as well. Give her time served, suspend her license for shit 2 years, put her to work and all proceeds go to either a dui program, or a fund for families who have had a death due to a dui, utilize her power, and her influence in a good way instead of making a huge spectacle which for all purposes will turn into a made for tv movie. How many times has Lohan been in car trouble???? Has she been to jail??? No always some sort of excuse as to why Ms. Lohan crashed while driving intoxicated. Yank all there driving priviledges and put them to work in areas of their community that needs it, teach them a lesson that society can benefit from. I think she has been scared enough now. Lets stop this bullshit.

Yes she is obviously scared and I feel a lot of empathy for her in her distressed state.
The question is: Why is she scared? She is in an isolated cell by herself. She does not have to mix with other inmates. She gets out after a short spell. She is protected and looked after. It may be uncomfortable and boring but she is in no danger.
Most people in the real world will either lose their licenses or be sent to jail if caught drink driving. Why should she be treated any differently?
Community service is a bit of a joke – I don’t think Naomi Campbell actually learnt anything from it. To be honest, I don’t think anyone learns anything from it.
I am not one to follow the celebs or the bs the do to get the attention they seek so badly. I was watching fox news and they were debating the punishment that she received and I think it was Ann Colter who said ” it was only her first DUI” and that enraged me. My Sister in-law would still be alive today if the person who killed her was jailed after the first DUI arrest. bet several dui later he was still free and took the Life of an innocent person.
The punishment Ms Hilton received was fair in my eyes, I hope she can learn from this experience and come out and so something positive with her life

First off, I understand where most people are coming from, Such as you Chris and Mary. She needs to learn a lesson. I just think that 45 days, is a little harsh for a first time jail sentence, I am not proud of it, but I have had a few go arounds with the law, and from experience generally the first jail sentence that is handed down is around a 15 day jail stay, I felt the 23 days she was given the first time, was adequate, considering like you pointed out, being in her own cell, I wish I would have had that opportunity. But for the Judge to punish her with the 45 days for what the sherriff decided to do, does strike me as unfair. I am just perplexed by how people say they are just like us, when they are treated so much different by us. I was never served any alcohol when I was under the age, yet young hollywood, because again of what we have made them to be, can go and drink at all these clubs, for promotional or whatever the reason may be and it is alright, yet when they get in trouble, we are ” Well they are just like us, they should be treated the same way!” A little bit of contradiction there. I am very sorry to hear about your sister, that is a tragic and unfortunate thing that has happened. Which is why I think there are more beneficial ways to use Paris Hilton’s high profile case to benefit the situation at hand. I mean this whole thing has been about Paris once again, and not the actual situation at hand, that people are driving while intoxicated, and that innocent people have been killed by this. I think her first stint in jail probably scared her enough to not do it again, I feel she is one of the few people who can be scared into seeing the wrong in what she has done. Put her stardom and power to work and raise awareness to the problem and not the person who has it.
If it was any other person, they would not have received such harsh punishment. Period. The system is trying to make a statement out of Paris and it’s just not fair. Set aside all of the reasons that you may hate her, in the end she did break the law, but the punishment greatly exceeds her crime

I for one do not see the harshness in her sentance. But I do admit i am bias in looking at this situation. I think Paris is a spoiled brat and im sure the Judge may have been a little harsh because he has seen what kind of a public persona she has and he may not have liked it. It would be my dream that she would come out of this a do something GREAT with her life.
Well Chris, that is what I am curious to see, and is also going to be the basis of what kind of person she is. I have mixed feeling about her, She is funny on the show the simple life, She is not ugly, but she is no super model, her voice is alright. What set me back a little on what I think about her was, the video of her ripping Lindsay Lohan, She made herself out to be, in all actuality how she probably really is, an ass, I was dissapointed! If she comes out of this as if nothing happened, and totally capitalizes on this experience, I will be upset. I have been saying this all along, they should use the power she has and use it to the benefit of the crime she committed, there are alot of people out there who would consider listening to what she would have to say and might actually follow it. I mean lets face it she is never going to live this down. And it should always be a memory that she has.n. I feel for her, and I feel for all the victims of a dui tragedy. Whats done is done, nothing is going to change what she did nor change what her sentence will be. I am very curious to see what is going to happen to the senator who was all over the news driving and taking out cars on the way in the bay area claiming she was on cancer treatment medication, I have a feeling with what has happened to Ms. Hilton, Politicians just might be headed for an example to made out of her. We shall see! : )

I certainly do NOT hate her. I actually feel a lot of empathy for her and can understand how scared she is.
Hate is such a negative and evil emotion – the less there is in the world, the better.
I have said this before on the Angelina Jolie website and it is worth repeating again here:
When I visit these types of sites, I am often shocked and saddened at the amount of malice displayed by some.
Given some of the nasty, vicious and mean-spirited comments on these sites, you really have to wonder about the mentality of the person who is writing them.
To those people I would say, were you not aware that when you make detrimental comments about another, those comments actually reflect an inner part of yourself?
It is a known fact that negative comments are normally made by people who have low self-esteem, feel a lack of self-worth and are often jealous of the person they are attacking.
Given that you are making your assumptions on often fabricated, distorted media reporting and unfounded rumours (on someone you have never met) is also very disturbing.
Putting that all aside, maybe she has been “made an example of” and the jail term it excessive? To be honest, I can’t really comment on the length of her jail term because I don’t understand the American justice system.
However, her recent outrageous comments, show that she is completely removed from reality……
(i.e.) “socialite Paris Hilton urged fans yesterday to sign a petition to pardon her “mistake” because she provides beauty and excitement to (most of) our otherwise mundane lives”.
To be honest, I think a jail term may be the making of her in the long run. If nothing else, it will bring her back down to earth with the rest of us.

i agree with you completely. i was not aware of some of the comments she had been releasing, but after hearing them i see your point. As empathetic as i am, she should be taking responsibility for her actions.
I think the judge is making a statement with Paris. If celebrities think they can do what they want all the time, then justice cannot be equal. There have been countless times celebs have broken the law and only received fines. I feel the judge was fed up with the celeb crap and found a great opportunity to show the ENTIRE WORLD that even a “princess” like Paris Hilton cannot get away with breaking the law. Mel Gibson should be counting his blessings he didn’t get what Paris is getting.
She was given ample opportunities to have a lesser punishment but……..she thought she was above the law and had no respect for it or herself and she now finally has consiquences for HER actions. First time for everything. Let’s see if Paris can learn some life lessons that were obdviously not taught to her at home.
I dont think we can blame this on her not being taught at home, considering she was raised in a hotel by the staff. She has lived her life by giving the public exactly what they have wanted to see. Yeah some of her antics have been quite lame, but what is more lame her asking to have people sign a petition, or the people who actually did sign it? And sure, where do you draw the line and stop letting the celebs get away with everything, she made a mistake at the wrong time, lets see what happens in the future with other celebs and there mishaps, Nicole Richie will be handed down a sentence here this month, I will be curious to see what happens to her, and Lindsay Lohan, will the punishment be as harsh? And our wonderful Senator Migden, what will happen with her, will being a politician save her from being an example? Will her excuse of undergoing Chemo therapy be a legitimate reason for driving erratically hitting objects all along the 80 in vallejo?
although i have no like or dislikle for paris hilton, i know what guilt is. she’s paying for what she did and personally i think she deserves to go to jail but she also needs to be treated like any other human bein. what if this was you? cryin in the back seat of a sheriffs car? or you sister? or your brother? Well Travis, your absolutely correct. I guess she only has herself to blame because your obdviously looking to blame someone. Here’s the thing we can all look to blame this on that or this or my upbringing or lack of whatever the situation might be but eventually we all become adults and know right from wrong. And if you do wrong take your lumps, learn from them and move on. It’ not about the length of time of her sentence but what you get from it. If you want to play in an adult world and promote yourself the way you do well news flash “we all have choices”. She apparantly had several chances and chose to ignore and make up excuses for all of them. She should think of this as her cool celeb rehab. Who knows maybe she’ll start a new celeb trend.
WOW! its really sad when hatefull people get pleasure from others misfortunes. I’ve never met paris hilton, therefore i dont pass judgement on her. i think anyone who does is jealous of her and is the TRUE skank in the world.
I think the only thing that we can hope for at this point, is that this huge spectacle, and all the media attention, brings awareness to the situation at hand, and whether you are a celebrity or not, driving while under the influence is just not going to be accepted period. Everything else is pretty much a waste of time, she is going to do her time regardless of what we all think about her, and all the opinions posted here. At this point in time I am not really concerned if this had made an impact in her life, cause I am sure she is going to capatilize from this experience, but if it can bring awareness that this is a problem, and not just by us “common” folk, that our heros, idols, and the sickenly rich, all share an all to common bad behavior of driving while intoxicated, what ever it may be, alcohol, drugs, or even “chemo therapy meds”. I received my first and only dui in 2002, and I thought I had a legitimate excuse, I was under the influence of perscription meds, and did not see why I should be charged with a DUI, well a little education and a better understanding I now know. If I have anything in my system I will not drive, and not for fear of the law, but for fear of what I could do to another human being. And with that I think my little stint is done here on the hilton files, unless something else in the future strikes a nerve with me. I appreciate all the feedback I have gotten and I also appreciate that there was no negative or deragatory remarks made regarding my opinion. I think forums like this where we all can express our point of views, while entertaining, also educational, brings awareness to sides we might not have considered ourselves! : )
