Paris Hilton Makes 'The Boston Globe's' Decade in News

The Boston Globe looks back at the decade in pictures in their The Big Picture column. The list INFphoto_230200features everything from natural disasters and Presidents, to terrorist news and sports photographs.

The featured photo of Paris is one from the 2005 58th Cannes Film Festival, where she poses at a photocall on the Carlton Hotel pier. I think it’s an amazing photograph because she looks sexy, confident and belongs right where she is as the complete center of attention. This is a stunning image of Paris looking radiant and I’m happy they chose to include her on the list.

However, many people would disagree with me. Take a look at the many comments where a lot of people say that Paris is not nearly as important as the important and tragic news images that are also included.

Here are a few of the negative comments:

“Paris Hilton? what’s she doing here? …Bad taste!”

“The Paris Hilton picture should have been blacked out and labeled for objectionable content.”

“Why Paris Hilton included?????”

Other readers did defend her saying she was emblematic of he 2000’s and therefore it seems appropriate.

Here are some of the positive comments:

“Paris Hilton inclusion is genius and appropriate. Ignore everyone who says otherwise.”

“I agree with Paris Hilton’s inclusion.”

Check out the photo here. Paris is number 24.

What are your thoughts? Why would they choose to say that about Paris but not mention anything about the sports photographs or others? What factors would you consider in making a list like this? Drop me a comment and start talking!

For now, enjoy the photo gallery below which features other images from the same photocall. She looks gorgeous!
