According to Creators.com, Patricia Arquette is happy that production is restarting for the writers’ sake, but she has been really loving the time off. She has been able to rest and recuperate from her exhausting schedule, which involved 12 hour days of actual work and an additional two hours commuting and rehearsing every day.
They talk about her collapse from exhaustion in 2006 on the set, the fact that this is her first series and a few additional little tidbits, including the fact that she plans to develop a screenplay based on the book “Willful Creatures” with another writer. So, she is an actress, a wife, a mother, an artist (a talented one, too, based on the lovely things she has designed for fundraisers.) and a screenplay writer. No wonder she welcomed the break!
On a final note, Patricia Arquette also said that she does have one more year left on her contract, but future plans would depend on the other cast and crew members and, of course, her health and family.

Great find, Katelyn. Neat article, but it kind of makes me sad to hear that it’s so hard on her. As much as I love the show, I hate to think of anyone working that hard and wearing themselves out. Sounds like the strike really was a blessing in disguise for her. Maybe now she’ll be recharged and ready to go for a while longer. Interesting too, about the screenplay she’s bought. I had no idea she was interested in writing, but it sounds great. Can’t wait to hear more about that.
Well, the ratings have been strong so far this year in the few eps we’ve seen and I hope they will continue being strong while everything is in flux as they get back on track with production. I certainly hope the writers that were released are being re-hired pronto!
Rachel, I hope you get back to work real soon, too.
Wonder what the screenplay is about that Patricia is writing. Must be nice to be so enormously talented.
You’re right, Betty, and I hope too that the ratings continue to be strong (especially once CSI:Miami comes back with new eps, that’s gonna be tough to beat) but I hope that now NBC has seen that Medium does have drawing power and they will give it a chance to thrive once again.
On that note, I noticed that NBC released their spring schedule and it simply says that Medium “continues it’s current Monday night run”, so I wondered if that meant that they weren’t going to film any more eps, but I found another article with a comment from Glenn Caron about how happy he is to be back to work.
“”As I drove into work today, I just thought, ‘Thank God people are going to be able to come back to work and support their families and get on with their lives,’” said Glenn Gordon Caron, the creator of “Medium,” the NBC drama starring Patricia Arquette as a mother with psychic powers.
“I’m really, really, really, really happy to be back,” he said. “Wait. I want to add another ‘really’ to that.”"
Can I just say he seems REALLY happy to be back? Lol! Anyway, that sounds like good news for Medium lovers everywhere! Yippee! And from what I’ve read about the writers who were let go, if they were working on a show currently airing, then they will be given their job back, but any outside deals will have to be renegotiated. So maybe that means that Rene Echevarria will be back and whoever else was let go.

Oh, Betty, I looked up that book too, cause I was curious about it too, and it sounds interesting. Sounds kinda like a cross between “Bridge to Terabithia” and “Edward Scissorhands”, a fantasy for adults, if you will. I’m gonna look into it, cause I’m always looking for new stuff to read.
Hey, guys, Ausiello has updated his list of returning shows and is now reporting that Medium is expected to film SEVEN MORE EPISODES this season!! YIPPEE!!!
Now if we only we could hear about a pickup for another season. Are you listening, NBC???
Thanks for the additional eps, but now we need to hear about NEXT season.
Dawn,
That is awesome news. I noticed Chuck and Heroes already got the nod for another season. Maybe they will decide to let us know about Medium soon, too.
Thanks Betty for the encouragement; I hope so, too, as I hate the job I have now! And can I just tell you how absolutely God-awful the traffic was yesterday and today?! I’m thrilled folks are back to work, but carpool people, carpool!
If more episodes are scheduled to be filmed, I couldn’t be more thrilled; for me as a fan of the show, and for all of us that have been scraping by without work or without our normal jobs. Happy happy happy happy news! And could I add another “happy” to that?!
I got a copy of Willful Creatures. It is by Aimee Bender and the stories are kind of creepy fairy tales for adults. I can totally see Patricia Arquette getting into it and some of the tales would make great movies.
