On Saturday, January 24th, “Grey’s Anatomy” star Patrick Dempsey took part in The Rolex 24 at Daytona. He competed in the slower GT class and drove a Mazda RX-8.
Patrick spent part of Thursday and Friday signing autographs and taking pictures for fans. Although this is a lot of fun for him, he is serious about racing as well. He races for his own Dempsey racing company.
“We’ve been doing this a number of years now,” he said. “The goal is to really be taken seriously and to go out there and really prove myself. Every time I come to the track, I want to be respected and be taken seriously by the other drivers.
“I want to win a race, I want to win a championship, and we’ll get there.”
Not only does he love racing, but he is committed to a great cause and that’s fighting breast cancer. He and his team created the Dempsey Racing Challenge, which is a contest to raise money for the Avon Foundation’s Avon Walk for Breast Cancer. Patrick’s mother is a breast cancer survivor.
