PETA To Protest Mary-Kate & Ashley Book Signing

Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen will be signing copies of their new book Influence at the Barnes & Noble in Union Square tomorrow evening and PETA is going to be there, protesting the girls use of fur. The group is gathering at noon in Union Square to stage the day-long process.

“From their ghoulish garb to their skeletal frames, every day is Halloween if you’re an Olsen twin,” Dan Shannon, PETA’s assistant director of youth campaigns, said in their press release. “It’s frightening how out of touch Mary-Kate and Ashley are–no industry is more violent or bloody than the fur trade.”

PETA has been on the rampage for MK and Ashley, calling them Hairy-Kate and Trashley Trollsen, creating a website where you can dress the girls in animal blood and giving away free Halloween costumes of the girls. When will it end?

I really don’t see how attacking celebrities who wear fur as the most effective way to get your point across. But PETA has never been about effectiveness, it’s about sensationalization.

I agree, that PETA does some silly things….but there are many animal rights groups that protest fur in a more traditional and grassroots way as well.

Fur is cruel and unnecessary. And some times normal everyday people don’t realize. “Attacking” celebrities, furriers and other supporters of this disgusting industry are ways to educate people and foster change.

Despite the silly masks, LOTS of people took filers, asked questions and wanted to know more. It wasn’t all about just trashing the TROLLSEN twins. It’s about rising public awareness anyway you can.

It changes more minds then you’d think.

    NO BLOOD FOR VANITY!!!!!!!

And it will END when the twins get a heart and soul and stop supporting an industry filled with torture and death.

I don’t blame them, really, I myself find it weird how they hate animals; I mean, I have a chinchilla as a pet, not WEAR one….how can anyone hate animals? It’s strange, I’ve only seen them with dogs until now; and that polar bear coat of Mary Kate’s…jeez, they are going to be like, extinct soon(north pole melting) ….I think they’re gorgeous, both of them, but it is really stupid to wear so much fur;it’s just too much, too many coats, too many bags, and so on……Celebs are so selfish nowadays, and they are too, I don’t remember them EVER donating money for a good cause,it’s all about them, it’s sad.

Erin, did you watch the Good Morning America interview with Ashley? I recorded it on my cellphone but it was such bad quality, might as well not post it (hopefully someone will on youtube). Anyway, Ashley looked ABSOLUTELY gorgeous. I’m not just saying that because she always does…but today she looked especially pretty. Her hair was straight and she wore simple make-up. She’s much more beautiful in person.
