Last night, Nicole Richie hosted a fundraiser for her and Joel Madden’s charity organization, the Richie-Madden Children’s Foundation. Nicole looked stunning in a black pantsuit and with her hair pulled back. I don’t think Joel attended the event.
The fundraiser was to benefit The Children’s Health Fund. The event was held at the Cusp Boutique in Los Angeles.

sowhich is it? In the first sentence you say nicole and joel hosted the event and in the third sentence you say you don’t think joel was there.
How exactly can one host an event if they aren’t there, since to host means to be present?

Joel officially hosted it in the sense that it was his charity promoting and hosting the event. Not doing actual hosting duties like nicole.
