I could see him jumping in, for media attention. Did lindsay ask for his help? I doubt it. He should just stay out of the picture. Protection... does not come from the daddy figure in her life. It comes from security guards and cops. yeah.. Michael can pretend that he has a grip on things. He doesn't though, and his daughter wants no part in his issues. He isn't the one keeping her in safety. In fact I think he puts her in harm. The things he says are more towards the media, then her. If he wanted to protect her... he wouldn't threaten her with tell all books, and giving the world her texts. He isn't a real dad, he's just a user. Anything that he can do, to gain a little bit of spotlight... he'll do. It's sad really, but if he did it... I wouldn't be shocked. He's come out saying things so many times, to the media.
