Since the departure of Lindsay Lohan, Ugly Betty episodes have ceased to begin with a short recap of previous story lines. We as fans got so used to seeing episodes begin this way, we were actually taken aback when they ceased. The episodes now just begin by, well, beginning.
I’m not sure the reason for this – my guess is that the producers wish to take some of the serial nature out of the show and make each episode stand by itself. I think this is a good idea, if that’s the reason.
But, if you are lost, all is not, er, lost. At the Ugly Betty site at ABC.com, after each episode has aired, they post a very in-depth, 2 minute “previously…” video. Here is the latest:
I like the fact that they compress the entire episode down to two minutes. If you missed a week and just didn’t have time to view the entire previous episode, you could catch up to the point you wouldn’t be lost watching the net episode – all by watching one of these “previously” capsules on the ABC site. I like them very much.
I still miss the old openings, a little, though. But I like these in-depth recaps on the web better.

On one hand I think it’s an attempt to tack on an extra minute or two to the show, and on the other more pesstimistic side think they took the “previously on…” of because there isn’t main story arc, just a few eps strung together by common events.

Well, in my opinion that is exactly one of the things i dislike this season. Episodes are so rushed because they try to wrap all stories in 45 minutes. At least before they used to give some continuity and you could enjoy some few story arcs.
Well, I guess ABC is trying something new. Let’s pray if they do it right (dont want this to be cancelled. It’s the only show I watch). But if they were planning to do that they may better consider to sacrifice some characters and not make them show up at all in certain episodes for the sake of longer screen time to the rest.
The bad thing about this. I feel that right now I don’t even care if I miss an episode. In the end I think it was just something irrelevant that probably happened.
Let’s see if this new way appeal to others and keep the ratings up.
For my part. i still miss my Gio and I am certain to be missing Cliff <–I just had to say that to ease my pains. Sorry.
