Public Enemy Celebrate 20th Anniversary of Anthemic Album

Flavor Flav is enjoying a new generation of fans, since doing three seasons of Flavor of Love. And the pioneer of the hip-hop sidekick persona brings that new fandom to his band Public Enemy, as they celebrate the 20th anniversary of their groundbreaking It Takes A Nation Of Millions To Hold Us Back. According to Chart Attack, and the blogosphere in Québec, fans were rapping along and going nuts all night, as Chuck D, Flavor Flav, DJ Lord, and The S1W rocked the house in Montréal.

The band hit a snag, while entering Canada from the U.S. Professor Griff, and the band’s bassist and guitarist were not allowed to cross the border. Still, with just DJ and drums, they performed the album in its entirety to a grateful crowd.

Check out a little bit of the fun in this video:

I have to say, while it’s great that young crowds can relate to the issues in Public Enemy’s songs, it makes me sad that the same social issues are still relevant 20 years later. They really are legends who deserve a lot of respect for the stance that they take. If only we could just get it.
