I’m sure we’re all still recuperating from last night’s season finale. And what a season finale that was! Whether you were impressed by the episode, disappointed, or simply depressed into oblivion, there’s no doubt that Grey’s Anatomy creator Shonda Rhimes knows how to pull at our heartstrings. So what’s going to happen next? Well, Shonda’s certainly not going to tell us, but she does answer a few of Michael Ausiello’s questions about the show and the finale.
The full interview can be read at Entertainment Weekly but here’s a few highlights:
- The last ten minutes of the season were pitched from the very beginning and were not a result of press rumors or contract negotiations.
- Shonda knows what “happens” with Izzie and George, but she’s not sharing. She’s also not telling us whether the actors themselves know.
- Shonda implies the reason we didn’t see a lot of George this season was because she didn’t want anyone to notice that he wasn’t really there in the season finale.
- Was that really the big MerDer wedding? Yes. It doesn’t look like there will be an “official” wedding between Meredith and Derek because the writers don’t envision Meredith walking down the isle. So Post-Its it is.
- They’ve not yet worked out what they’re going to do about Ellen Pompeo’s maternity leave.
- The writers are all on break until June.
- Is Jessica Capshaw back as a season regular? Contracts haven’t been signed yet, but Shonda states that she loves (looooves) Jessica and compares Callie/Arizona to Meredith/Derek in terms of romantic chemistry.
- Shonda’s really proud of the addition of Kevin McKidd and Jessica Capshaw to the show. As far as things she would’ve done differently: “That would mean I have to admit that we made some mistakes, and I’m not going to do that.” [Laughs].
So there you go, my friends. We’re not going to get the answers we really want any time soon, but we can always speculate about what’s to happen. We have a very long summer ahead of us and a lot of waiting to do.

I agree completely with you Tina! We waited SO long to see what happens and in the end we get nothing. I was a bit disappointed but the 2 hour finale was still good.

A HUGE ROUND OF APPLAUSE TO SHONDA, THE WRITERS AND PRODUCERS, AND THE ACTORS. THE FINALE WAS BEYOND AMAZING. I WAS BAWLING LIKE A BABY “007″ I DIDN’T EVEN KNOW. SHOWS HAVE BECOME SO PREDICTABLE BUT NOT GREY’S ANATOMY. THE ONE SHOW WHICH KNOWS AND EXPLORES AND DEVELOPS THEIR CHARACTERS WITH PRECISION. THE LAST SCENE IN THE ELEVATOR WAS JUST HEART WRENCHING. T.R AND KATHERINE I HOPE THEY DON’T COP OUT TO DO THE WHOLE “MOVIE” SCENE STICK TO THE BASE THAT GOT YOU THERE IN THE FIRST PLACE AND ASWELL AS CONTINUE TO DO YOUR ROM-COMS AND WHAT NOT.
GREY’S ANATOMY TRULY AMAZING.

I guess what comes in season 6: Izzie comes back but not George. Izzie is dressed up like the day Denny died, so, the one who’s going to die is George. From Argentina, a huge fan of Grey’s!
Just a guess, but my hunch is that we would all be surprised if BOTH KH and TR didn’t die, so that’s probably what will wind up happening. The Shonda I know would create a season finale were we were sure we knew that someone had to die and then resurrect both from the dead. But again, just a guess
Is there any possibility that all the rumors about TR and KH’s exits were stirred up just to boost people’s curiousity? That they were never planning to leave in the first place?

id say george will come back and izzie will die. .It makes sense that Izzie would wear the dress that she wore when denny died if she was dead because denny would be the person shed want to see if she was,not george:SI hope not I loooooove TR and KH:(Hoopfully they’ll both stay:D

i can’t wait for season 6 i want it to start already. i hope none of them die. love Izzie she is so cute with Alex and they finally got married. and George he can’t die. if thy die i will be so mad. it was super cute when Izzie was wearing the same dress that she wore when Denny died and George was wearing the army uniform. i think they only did that to make people think that they would die and for people to watch season 6 but my opinion is that they don’t die. they are to important in Grey’s Anantomy to die. ilove Izzie and George(oo7) <3
We`ll wait season 6 ,I hope no body die ,but I think Izzie`ll be died and George`ll live to prove that he is hero and brave man.
