Ratings for Medium 6x09 "The Future's So Bright" - Holding steady

The overnights are in, and while last night’s episode of Medium, in which Allison had some crazy magical sunglasses that made her look like Alabama Whitman, was slightly down in overall viewers, it scored the same in the18-49 demo. Medium garnered 7.80 million viewers with a 1.9 in the 18-49 group, compared to last week when it had 8.16 million viewers and a 1.9.

Medium came in a close second to Ghost Whisperer, which had 8.43 million viewers and 2.0 in the 18-49 group, but beat CBS’ 10:00 show, Numb3rs, in the 18-49 demo, with its 7.84 million total viewers and a 1.7. However, ABC’s airing of Shrek the Third, means that victory didn’t come to CBS as easily as it usually does.

In fact, although CBS easily beat ABC in total viewers with 8.02 million vs. 6.86, they actually tied in the all-important 18-49 demographic, with 1.9. In fact, while Ghost Whisperer was able to stave off Shrek the Third in the 8:00 hour, Medium couldn’t beat it in the key demo, and ABC’s 20/20 fared better than Numb3rs at 10:00.

While it’s not the best ratings news in the world, there is something to be said for consistency, and Medium actually fared better last night than I thought it would. I figured that the television competition along with the fact that two big movies were released yesterday, New Moon and Precious, would keep viewers away. However, Medium showed once again how it’s made it six seasons: its loyal fans are always there.

Amazing episode, I just thing what Medium is lacking is more recurring characters. Like, maybe an enemy or two (like Cooper and Dr. Walker), but we need more. Also, I want a loyal and believing friend for Allison.

    LOVE THE SHOW

and didn’t anyone think her hair looked the best in this episode so far this season?
I did :) She pulls off any hair cut, short and long. Although, my favourite hair style on her was season 5’s. THe long hair

Since the key demo is really all that matters in getting Medium renewed thats great! Besides it lost to a movie, not another show so I also think that dosent matter. This episode was the first of the season I really thought was greatly writen so i’m very happy for that. I agree with Michael tho, they NEED to bring in another character, even if they are only recurring. Hopfully Joe’s boss will be seen more. I also noticed PA’s hair was growing. It was in that weird growing out stage. lol. I think i’ll like it better a little longer, like seaosns 4 and 5.

Well, the demo wasn’t all that great, but at least it is consistent. That’s gotta count for something. Still would like to see it grow a little bit, but I’ll take consistency. I just hope it’s good enough for CBS.

This sounds like pretty good rating news. I really liked this episode! I agree about keeping around Joe’s boss. I’m not a big fan of focusing on Joe’s work, but I love that guy. I also love his dad. Anyone else remember him from Traders?

Maybe they did well in the ratings because Scanlon uttered my favorite Scanlon line!: “I don’t know what to tell you, Allison.”

Betty, where are you? I haven’t noticed you posting in a while.

I really don’t like when they are focusing on Joe’s job, but this one was OK when it more bout meditation and health. Ans I also like Joe’s Dad, but I hope they have Allisons mom in another episode, I don’t remember if she is dead or not, but as we know, that’s not really a problem to Allison, so I hope that she comes back for atleast one episode. And Imiss Allisons brother aswell, hope He’ll come back too. This episode was great, but I missed the girls, didnät see them at all this episode. When does the next Medim episode air? Cuz on the other chennels they are taking a break until january next year.

@Nansee haha. You are completely right: “I don’t know what to tell you, Allison” is completely iconic.

@Lina According to the CBS press site, there are new episodes of Medium on for the next two weeks. However, there wasn’t a preview of next week’s on after this episode. I suspect we’ll know for sure on Monday.

Kona, I think this week is a repeat of “The Man in the Mirror” and the next new episode is next week (Dec. 4). I believe it’s the one about Allison having visions about a bio-terror attack. Should be interesting.

I love “I don’t know what to tell you, Allison.”!!! You can’t have a Medium episode without SOMEONE saying that to her, lol!

That episode (You Give me Fever) should be good. A lot of people are saying Lee is going to ask Lynn to marry him in the sub plot, so that should be really cool.

I noticed in the press release that Lynn is listed, so I guess that means that something is going to be happening with her, and maybe Lee. Maybe he is going to pop the question. Can’t wait for another new ep.

I’ve always wanted to know more about Allison’s mom. I love backstory more than anything I watch as long as it’s done well. I love seeing Allison help Ariel deal with her gift because we know that Allison’s mom wasn’t so nice about believing the gift.

Did we have an episode flashback where Scanlon almost got married in the past, or was it just a dream of Allison’s? All I remember is *another* of Phoenix’s police force being not so innocent!

I love Allison, Joe, the DA and the Detective.
And each night I wait for famous line – the inside joke like – that ALWAYS is uttered by someone in the show. That line is “I DON’T KNOW WHAT TO TELL YOU.” I’m going to try to use this line every day. We’ll see if anyone else closely listens to the Medium, or as Marshall McLuan said 50 years ago, “The Medium is The Message”.
