As it’s the holidays, everything is still pretty much in reruns. FOX was the only network brave enough to air new episodes– and it wasn’t even for their typical Friday night shows. Instead, they decided to do back-to-back-to-back-to-back episodes of Til Death. Unfortunately for them, the gamble didn’t pay off, as they still finished in fourth place.

CBS’s reruns didn’t fare much better, as they ended up in third place, but Medium’s rerun of “Pain Killer” was pretty steady, faring better than it’s Ghost Whisperer lead-in. Because of all of the Til Death reruns, the ratings are broken up into half-hour blocks. From 9-9:30, Medium scored 4.15 million viewers with a 1.0 rating. Its ratings rose in the second half hour, garnering a 4.81/1.2.
Ghost Whisperer, on the other hand, managed to only score 3.62 million viewers in its first half-hour, with a 0.9 in the 18-49 demographic. In its second half-hour, it grabbed 3.93 million and a 1.0 rating. Numb3rs performed decently during the 10:00 hour, scoring a higher number of total viewers than Medium, but not beating it in the key demo. From 10-10:30, it scored 5.31 million viewers and a 1.0 in the 18-49 demo. The next half hour, the viewers went down slightly, with 5.20 million viewers but stayed steady with 1.0 in the key demo.
While these are all low numbers across the board, Medium really was steady. Not only did it win over everything else on CBS, but considering that the highest key demo rating was 1.6, its 1.2 really isn’t that bad– especially considering that it so soundly defeated the only new scripted programming. Til Death’s highest ratings were up against Medium at 9:30, where it scored 2.74 million and a 0.8 rating in the 18-49 demographic. We’re getting to the time of year where networks are starting to try and figure out what’s going to be renewed next year. While 4.81 million viewers doesn’t sound good, it may be enough to get a seventh season.

In my area they didn’t show painkiller which was good since that was one of my least favorite episodes-I found it rather boring. Instead they played an old one- the one where Joe’s sister Sara comes to visit since she was having trouble with her husband. That was a good one
According to CBS, and the shows I saw, Pain Killer aired on Sat Dec 26th and All in the Family aired Fri, Christmas, Dec 25th(the one with Joe’s Sister). I’m excited that CBS is running the reruns–a good sign. Ugh…enough of hiatis already!
Okay that makes sense, I watched Friday night when they showed All in the Family.
I didn’t watch anything Saturday so I didn’t know Painkiller was on.
I guess the attitude to Christmas television is different for our networks, we had all new Doctor Who (which I don’t watch), pretty much new, film premieres or Christmas specials in the evening. I have quite a lot on dvr or online to catch up with, pity I have to go back to work tomorrow! It’s pretty much the only time of the year I’m spoilt for choice.
I wonder if Joe did become an uncle? I’ve never quite figured out how many sisters he has, three I think…
Oops. You are absolutely correct. I misread the press release date.
