This month is especially difficult for television, as people are spending less time at home, and more time preparing for the holidays. Either their out shopping, or attending holiday parties. Hanukkah also just started this weekend, so folks are just busy all around. So with that said, it’s not entirely beyond belief that Medium did not fare very well last night.

CBS ran the season premiere, “Deja Vu All Over Again,” and it was down slightly from the last rerun that they aired two weeks ago. Medium garnered a 1.1 in the 18.49 demographic, with 4.08 million total viewers. It still handily beat a new episode of Dollhouse on FOX (2.09/0.8), but fell behind a new episode of Ugly Betty (4.80/1.4). Dateline, however was the big winner of the hour, with a Tiger Woods-centered episode of Dateline. It snagged 9.27 million viewers with 2.0 in the 18-49 demo.
Ghost Whisperer didn’t air this week; instead, CBS showed Yes, Virginia in its place. What’s worrying is that Medium finished third out of the CBS lineup. Yes, Virginia garnered 5.27 million viewers with a 1.3 in the demo, and a repeat of Numb3rs also edged out Medium with 5.38/1.2.
While I still have faith in Medium and its performance, it is disturbing when it finishes behind a show that has had its episode order cut. We’re not getting another new episode until January, so hopefully we’ll see a pickup once they start airing. I’ll be paying close attention, and I’m sure CBS will too.
