With the upcoming Real Housewives of New Jersey season approaching (a premiere date has not yet been set, but I have a strong suspicion it will be sometime in May for sweeps), you’d think the castmates would be doing everything to remain in good public opinion. But no.
Somehow, the spotlight keeps catching them at their worst moments. In more bad news for the cast, Joe Giudice, husband of Real Housewives of New Jersey star Teresa Giudice was arrested (again) Friday. According to NorthJersey.com, he was arrested on charges of fraudulently obtaining a New Jersey driver’s license. Allegedly, he went to the DMV and got a driver’s liscense under his brother’s name. This is a second-degree crime. If convicted, he could spend up to 10 years in prison. In addition to charges of wrongfully using identifying information of another person, he is also charged with forgery, which carries a maximum sentence of 18 months in prison. As I’m sure you remember, Joe’s license is suspended and he spent 10 days in jail last year for driving on a suspended license.
This is only the latest in a string of shitty PR nightmares for the Real Housewives of New Jersey ladies and their families. Let’s recap. Since last season:
- As mentioned above, Joe spent time in jail for driving on a suspended license
- The Giudice/Gorga clan (Teresa’s sister-in-law, Melissa Gorga, has reportedly signed on for season 3, along with Teresa’s cousin, Kathy Wakile) got into a brawl at Melissa’s son’s Christening
- Joe Giudice and Housewife Caroline Manzo‘s two sons, Albie Manzo and Chris Manzo, and their roommate, Gregory Bennett, were allegedly involved in a bar fight in the Dominican Republic, in which two other bar patrons wound up with fractures in the arm and leg. The aforementioned four men were detained in the DR during an investigation of the incident.
- A lawsuit was brought against Bravo and Teresa Giudice’s company, Fabulicious, for allegedly stealing a Christian comedian’s trademark phrase, “Happy Wife, Happy Life”
- Caroline Manzo’s husband, Albert Manzo, was suspended from a water commission and forced to resign, after he was accused of forging his address, saying that he lived at the Brownstone, in Paterson, NJ, instead of his actual home, in Franklin Lakes, NJ.
Teresa’s last Facebook status update was at 10:40 a.m. yesterday, Friday morning, and it read: “Happy Friday! Going to Mt. Airy in the Poconos tonight. Cooking for my fans! What is everyone else doing? xx”
I honestly do feel bad for the Giudices. Although there’s no excuse for Joe’s actions, the fact that they put themselves in the spotlight means that charges against them are magnified. I’m sure it must be humiliating to the family, and the innocent people involved (like the Giudices’ four daughters). But, this latest charge is pretty funny, because most of the people I’ve heard of going to the DMV and getting fake licenses have been underage kids wanting to get into bars.
