I got to attend the Repo! The Genetic Opera panel at San Diego Comic Con tonight! Paris Hilton made an appearance. Of course it’s starting late and we couldn’t take any video, so we’ve only got pictures. Lots more under!! Sorry some of them are blurry, especially during the movie – it was dark and no flash.
The first thing the panel talked about was the musical performances. The music was all pre-recorded! Darren Lynn Bousman (director) said that the performances were done two months before they even hit Toronto. Alexa Vega reveals that the music was taped in Hollywood and so they had a hard time shooting it – having to visualize their movements and set while performing the music. “Essentially it was two different movies,” Darren said – the performances and the movies…
Paris was asked if it was a hard sell to join the movie. “Well, when I first read the script it was obviously something I had never seen or heard of before,” but she wanted to sign on right away. She said it was an honor not being typecasted. She said that she loved the entire cast.
“In the very beginning the only thing I knew Paris from was what I read on the websites,” says Darren when it comes to casting her. But then they all talked about it, because it was such an “out there idea, but so is the movie!” Darren first met her and was expecting her to come in and baffle his mind but she came in and was articulate and they all looked at each other, not expecting that version of Paris!! So they asked her to come back and sing a song. “She came in, she rocked, and she deserved the part.”
When asked if Paris is as comfortable with the Comic Com room as a red carpet event, she said she was more comfortable. “This is hot!”
Alexa chatted about getting onto the project – it involved a MySpace proposal from Darren!! She thought he was a creep before she realized he was legit. They then show a clip of her singing Seventeen.
Paris was asked if she would continue in the musical genre. “I had an amazing time doing this movie. The music was completely different than my album. Very hard core rock. Right now I’m doing another album,” she says. “I love musical theater now, because of Darren.”
Although the Repo! soundtrack is only one album they have a lot more tracks that they may eventually release as a double track!
Darren chats about how it’s hard to have Repossession Mambo coming out. But he assures us that the movies are nothing like each other though!!
In a couple of weeks they are going to start releasing weekly clips of the making of Repo! So stay tuned for those!
The final clip they showed was Amber (Paris) with the Gravedigger. It was actually the best clip they showed!! Paris is a “surgery lover” and the scene gets pretty sensual – what with blood, cutting, and Paris in black leather.

This looks like it will be a great rock opera and an instant cult classic. Can’t wait.
