According to Pitchfork Media, Rihanna has one of the best songs created in in the years after 2000. They recently created a list of the top 500 songs since entering the new millennium, and according to them, Ri-Ri holds the 25th place among all 500. Her track “Umbrella” with rapper Jay-Z is what got her that hot spot on the list.
Here’s a little piece of what they wrote about the song:
In the midst of it all, Rihanna herself sounds hard and defiant, abandoning her former girlish sweetness for a steely determination; hence the near-violence of her "um-be-rella-ella-ella," as impacting and stirring as a war cry. It’s not sensual, but, "Said I’ll always be your friend/ Took an oath, I’m a stick it out till the end," remains one of modern pop’s most romantic and affecting promises.
I have to agree that this song was not only popular and extremely catchy, but it actually had some meaning to it. Definitely deserving a spot on the top 500 of the past nine years.
